Hi guys,
Sorry I disappeared so quickly from the boards. Work has been rather hectic and it was and still is, difficult for me to find time to spend as much time on the boards as I used to. Even work on more brewing articles has come to a grinding halt.
But I’m still brewing on occasions. Sometimes even w/o taking any pH measurements :). I didn’t think it would ever come to that. But hopefully I’ll find more time for the brewing work in the future.
I saw that my Kraeusen article got published and I’ll open a thread on that in the Zymurgy section of the board, if that hasn’t been done yet.
Oh, and we also adopted a dog (Weimaraner/Chocolate Lab mix I think) which is keeping me busy.

Welcome back Kai!
-
good to see you around Kai
-
You mean work has taken precedence over brewing???? Where are your priorities, man? ;)
Good to hear from you, Kai. Hope you're finding time for the family. And that's a beautiful pup!
-
Will always look forward to your posts/articles when ever you can get to them!!! Cute pup!!! You'll have to teach him to fetch the spoon or hydrometer, or ? ;)
-
Kai, sometimes you got to do what you got to do at work. Projects, reviews and production deadlines were always a time of going balls out (an engineering reference that goes back to the days of the flyball governer). I don't miss it.
Get over the work crunch, keep the family first in your mind, train the puppy, and make some beer. Stop back in and say hello when time allows.

Welcome to the forum. Be sure to make a yeast starter and watch those fermentation temps and you will make good beer.
-
I was hoping you were going to stay away another month or so until I caught you in the all important post count ;D ;)
good to see you back and glad to hear you adopted a dog.
I'm thinking I might open that doppel in a few weeks!
Cheers!

Kai, That is a fine looking dog. Welcome back.
Is the dogs name, Decoction?
-
I was just wondering the other day where you've been at. Glad to hear you're keeping busy ;)
-
I feel ya. Work has been really chaotic for me lately and while I've been posting on this forum, I haven't been doing a lot of brewing. :-[
Glad to hear from you and hope your schedule allows you some brewing/forum time in the near future!
-
Good to hear from you Kai. Work is overrated IMO.

Barley?
-
Reinheitsgebot?
-
Caramel 40L?
-
I though you ran off into the woods and started brewing Lambics or something.
Taking a break can be good... you don't want brewing to become work. When your job eases up, you'll be excited to get that pH meter out again !
-
Good to hear you're alive, sir. And congrats on the new kid!

Dude, that oughta go in your sig!

Reinheitsgebot?

It's really sad how jealous ya'll are. :P

Perhaps we should leave you two alone now. ;D

Taking off to live in the woods, maybe. But brewing Lambics, never ;)
It will be interesting to see if less attentive brewing affects the outcome in any negative way. But something I'm not giving up is the fast ferment test, in case you wonder.

That post from Kai was from back in August.
DOH! I see that now, but had not noticed it earlier cause my history indicated it was tagged "new"
anyhow I did PM him and thought this was his response

I'm starting to get back into being active on-line again. I did some minor updates on braukaiser.com and one of them was to update the blog software which hopefully helps with the control of spam in the comments.
I still have to finish the 3rd article for the pH series.

Good to see you around again, Kai! How's the puppy doing?
-
Hey splendid W.B. Kaiser glad to see ya...
Edit: Kai since we last communicated, I have found the
Nomograph for brewing water and wanted to tell you that
this is a fabulous tool for the chemistry challenged brewer
that I am....Member a10t2 gave me the link. It is bullet #2
on this page...

The results of my 1st attempt to do water modification are currently
ageing in secondary and it is a bock around 12 SRM promising
good results for my effort.

Kai great to see you back.

Great to see you are going to start posting again. I was beginning to wonder if you had a change of heart or something. :-\
Looking forward to more technical discussions.

good to see you back and glad to hear you adopted a dog.
Blatz,
I meant to comment on this as well. Thanks for supporting pet adoption. We also ended up with 3 cats so far and at this point I have to say that this should be enough. We don't want to become "animal horders" ;) .
The dog is doing fine. He has grown quite a bit and is now just shy of 50lb. I doubt he will grow much further but we have no clue what breeds are in him. Obviously there has to be some kind of Hound since he has the appearance of a hunting dog. While there are DNA tests available I read that they are not all that reliable and may only have entertainment value. He is a very active dog and I'm taking him running a lot. If I don't do this he gets way to rambunctious around the house.

awesome man - good stuff - the running is probably good for you as well!

A tired dog is a happy dog. We have a 4 year old chocolate lab who is only recently loosing his 'puppy level' energy.

Ours just turned 8 and is finally slowing down, but she doesn't know she's old yet. She threw out her back chasing a ball a couple of months ago and I had to carry her up and down the stairs for a few days and lift her in/out of the car when I took her to the vet. When she gets antsy she will run around in circles when I let her out, panting/whining the whole time. :) Good dog. :)
