Title: Old Yeast/Old Extract Starter
Post by: HopDen on April 23, 2020, 11:22:22 am
I have a 3 year old container of Briess Pilsen LME and 3 pkg's of WLP002 with a best by date of Jun. 01 19 and a MFG date of Dec.3 18. This is more for s***s and giggles. The LME smelled ok but was dark and tastes like prunes. Brought it to a boil and it gave up some, what appears to be hot break. I will make a starter at 1.035 OG and see what happens.

So, a question

1) Will the LME starter negatively affect the yeasts influence on a future wort? I would think not but I am not certain.
