Title: Back-scratchers?
Post by: euge on September 30, 2010, 12:04:41 AM
I got this thin bamboo back scratcher a couple years back. Exactly the same as my granpa's- which my eldest brother "inherited". His is probably 60 years old now.

Anyhoo, this thing probably cost $1.50 and it has been one of the best Christmas presents I've ever received. Certainly the most valued. My couch ate it for six months and not knowing where it had gone thought someone had stolen it... Feel bad about that.

Web search be damned I couldn't find this particular scratcher.  ???

Anyway. I wasn't impressed with what I saw online. But it may be a thing of personal preference.

This thing looks dangerous:

Be careful scratching too low down your back...you might hang yourself up with that thing.  ;D

@dhacker - LOL

I inherited one from my wife's Granddad, It was made of bamboo and it split widthwise down the length.
If that makes sense. As if the laminate separated...

It was awesome. I havent seen a good one since, either.

What I'm talking about is similar to this but with out the design on the shaft. And the flattened part at the other end is shorter.

I want to get about 75 of these and give them out during Christmas time to the folks at work. Then when they are scratching their backs they'll be thinking of me... nice thoughts... Good karma.

Yeah, I have a couple like that at home with a much simpler shaft (just a thin piece of bamboo).  I picked them up at the dollar store a couple years back.  I love it.  My 7 year old daughter took the second one and claimed it for her own - I've caught her using it to fish her brother's toys out from under the couch - clever girl (as long as she doesn't use Daddy's  ;D )

We have one similar to this.  Mostly, the kids use it as a weapon or they leave it laying everywhere for me to step on.  I've never seen anyone scratch their back with it.

weaze, just reach on down and in to get those types of ball itches. Dont need a back scratcher for that. If you really want to get the job done do it after you just got done chopping some jalapenos. You will forget about that itch in no time at all.

Just got back from a 9 day Carribbean cruise.  Of course, my back is peeling a bit and itchy.  Yesterday, on the flight home, I was thinking of our back scratcher.  I've been cussing that thing for 5 years.  Mostly, the kids use it as a weapon and leave it on the floor for me to step on.

Now, its my new best friend  ;D

Gotta pay for the bail bonds somehow...False reports to the fuzz and the $100K+ price tag for multi-county search and rescue efforts...

I was brewing the day he (his balloon) flew over my house. We only noticed the helicopters, several of them, and then the phone call came in. Friends family in Florida asking, "You watching the news?"

No, brewing. Why?...the rest is history.

When it was all unfolding- I sat riveted watching the tv- one of the experts said they don't charge for search and rescue because if they did it might discourage people from reporting real emergencies. True? I don't know but if they're being charged for it I guess it's warranted in this case!

If the kid had actually been in the balloon or if he wasn't but they really believed her was I doubt they would have charged him the cost.  But when it's all a hoax?  Oh yeah, they want their money back.  They want you to report real emergencies, and don't want you to report fake ones.

Yup, if you are in a legit need of public service they are there for you. If it is not legit you will get a bill for services rendered.

Out where I live there is a lot of farm land. Somewhat tight-knit. It turns out the field the balloon landed in,
had just been drilled (seeded) and was ready for the crop to start growing. With all the fire trucks, cop cars and foot
traffic, they trampled the heck out of it. I never found out if the field was a complete loss or if insurance
would cover balloon hoax, but my neighbors knew the farmer. I am going to ask what the end result was.
