Title: Copper clad conical
Post by: stlaleman on October 17, 2010, 01:00:13 PM

We took our standard fermenter at work and copper plated the outside. Gives my Pub room a bit of class!

Looks great.  Is it coated somehow?  Looks like a pain to polish.  Or are you going to let it get a patina?

Its actually copper plated. A light rub down with CLR every few months, or as needed.

Wow that looks cool. Did you get to watch the process? How the heck do you not get copper on the beer contact areas?

The various holes are taped off or capped, then the entire conical was lowered in a tank of weak acid with electrodes attached. Chunks of solid copper are atteched to the other set of electrodes. Between the current and the acid, copper is moved from one the chunks to an even coating on the fermenter. Not sure if any more will be made, there are a couple glitches that need to be worked out first. But it does look nice, gives the pub an older look. Now to finish the kegerator and redo the walls and floor....

Wow, that looks stunning!!!!  How much did you invest for the Conical and then the plating?

Check out http://www.brewhemoth.com  for basic information. The copper plating is an extra, would require emails to quote price.
