Today is a happy day for me! After 8 years of going to college (my midlife crisis) and changing my career from HVAC/sheet metal work to accounting, I took my last final tonight and earned my Masters degree in Accounting and Financial Analysis.
8 years because I had to get a bachelors degree first and work full time +.
Whew! It has been a long strange trip! :-D
Thank you for letting me share!
Dano

Congratulations, Dano!

Congrats, man! It's tough to do once you're out in the real world. I will slap my kids silly if I ever hear the words "take a semester off" come out of their mouths.
-
dano - you sir have earned yourself a night of beer.
I congratulate you not only on the accomplishment, but the stones to do it the hard way. I'll raise a glass to your current triumph but also to your future successes as well.

I think I would do the same if I had kids. ;) It is probably a lot easier to do when you come straight out of high school, then wait until your 35. It just took me that long to decide what I wanted to do when I "grew up." LOL!

I don't think it was stones so much as not having any other way to do it. :-)
And Thank you too, Denny!

Congrats man! I'll drink for ya! I took left the HVAC / sheet metal trade about 6 months ago, after 15+ years in it. Not by choice though. I moved to a place where none is going on.
But way to go for you.

Congrats dano! You going to take the CPA exam? What kind of job are you working, or hoping to get with the accounting degree?

Well Done Dano! You definetly did it the hard way. Savor the victory and accomplishment. Enjoy the day!
Eight years is pretty quick! It took me 10 and 1/2 years to get my engineering degree while working overtime constantly in a power plant. Started at age 38 and finished at 48. I guess that spans mid-life...
Sorry, but I can't resist, being from Hawaii... Book'em Dano!

Awesome. Going for CPA?
Here- I'm raising me pint to ya!
-
Great job!
Congrats! 8)

Congratulations ;D
I went to school every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday night from 6 -10pm for 4 and 1/2 years to get a bachelors degree so I feel your pain and I hope it will pay off you as well as it has for me.
Good luck!

Since he's got an accounting degree, it should be "Close those books, Dano" :)
Go to any good keggers while at school? :)
All kidding aside, congratulations. I can barely find time to brew, let alone go back to school.
-
My hat is off to you. Going back to school, especially for that long, is one of the hardest things to do. You'll be a better man for it, and, I can tell you that any potential employer is going to look at your resume and hire you on the spot....
Have a brew!
-
Congrats!
I went back to school to change careers (in my early 30's) too. My program was only 1 year - my hat is off to you sir - I don't think I would have stuck it out for 8 years.
Best of luck!

I took my CPA exam when I turned 30... It opened a lot of doors for me. Congradulations! Accountants make good brewers, very much on top of their numbers, ya know!

Thank you all!
Yes, I am going to take the CPA exam. My next goal! I have been working for a CPA for the last 5 years as a tax accountant and staff accountant. Hopefully he will keep me around until he retires in 5 - 7 yrs and I can take over/purchase this practice.
Hawaii 5-0 was where I got the nickname, way back when I was in High School, watching late night TV friends. ;-)
Have a great day!

Or is that cook the books :P
Congratulations. I changed careers when I was 35, but I was single and able to go to school full time. I respect anyone who has the perseverance to do it part-time.

Congratulations. It takes a special person to get excited about a career in accounting. :D

Yeah, and don't plan on brewing between December and April!
-
That's awesome, congratulations! Hopefully I'll finish my own degree by NHC . . .

I would shoot for that since you'll probably lose a semester's worth of brain cells at NHC. :)

Congrats on the milestone!!!
Maybe there's still hope for me at 46... probably not.
My oldest is a high school senior next year and is starting to look for a college now. I have to admit that my third kid almost lost her head when she answered the "what do you think you want to do after high school?" with maybe beauty school. Dad didn't win any awards that evening. I think she understands the concept of aim higher now, and that Dad means it when he says don't do what I did. ::)
Way to stick with it!!

I think I can get one, maybe two more brews in before Jan 1. Then everything in life gets put on hold until April 16th.
I just hope I have enough homebrew stocked t make it to the end. ;)

Congrats, dano.
I decided to go back to school in my mid 20's for engineering but found it too difficult for me to manage. I raise my glass to you for sticking through it.. especially 8 years!!!!

That might explain why it's taking so long to graduate ;) Too many NHCs.
