I fully planned on spending time here but am now dogged by this thing called breast cancer. My wife has been sick and has a pretty serious issue with it so I have not been able to get in here and post and share. Have been spending days off work at doctors and such. She will have full mastectomy and reconstructive after chemo is over. Funny, we just don't feel that old yet. Both of us are 44 and thought this was for older people.....until now.
A little advice for my friends, have your wife go in every year for a mamogram, no matter what anyone else says.

mtbrewer, thanks. Keeping the faith. I know many go thru this all the time but I really couldn't appreciate it until its my turn to deal with it.
15th is the surgery, University of Michigan hospital has been the epicenter of our life lately. What an awesome place....words can't explain. Its like a city within a city.....with a hotel and everything !!!!
I'll keep you all posted.

Sorry to hear. Thoughts and prayers with your family.

Anything I can do to help Tim? ANYTHING!!!
My wife had it too, though not nearly to the extent that yours does, so I do have an idea of what you are going through.
Take care of that which is most important,
Fred

We're going through the same thing and the wife is 51 so yeah, it really isn't just for old people. Hers was advanced enough that we're doing chemo first to shrink it then double mastectomy (Jan/Feb) then radiation. You're in our prayers.
-
sorry to hear that - thoughts and prayers your way, man.
-
I'm sorry to hear the news. Thoughts and prayers for the best.

Tim,
Sorry to hear this news. I know all too well how you and your wife must have felt hearing those words at such an early age. I was 39 when I was diagnosed with Lymphoma. Did the chemo and radiation thing and am now approaching 4 years in remission.
Be strong, stay positive and let your faith guide you through this. You, your wife and family are in our thoughts and prayers.
If there is anything you need or anything I can do to help please let me know.
Better days are ahead my friend.
Bill S.

Tim, Hokerer and all the others whose lives have been forever affected by breast cancer,
Your wives and partners are incredibly lucky to have your love and support as they struggle through this disease, surgery and treatment. They, along with you and your families, are in our thoughts and prayers.
Tim: U of M is a great hospital for your wife's treatment. Your Michigan brew family is hoping for good news; keep us posted.
Keep wearing those pink ties, guys.

Gail and all....thank you to the bottom of the heart. Hokerer, my compatriot in this battle, lets fight it out, my thoughts are also with you sire and hope your wife does as well as we all expect mine will. I always used to make fun of all the different colored bracelets because I didn't know or hadn't been affected. I've been schooled and humbled. I now have the pink bracelet and wear it proudly.
Fred, I plan to do some brewing during the holidays to get the spirits up and the brewing juices flowing. Maybe we can brew together? Bill Shadowens, you too. I didn't know you had gone thru this Billy. I will have to pick your brains either at the next club meeting or a brew day for cancer survivor stuff.
So far family and friends will be here to help change dressings, clean the house, bring meals, etc.
More news to follow.

Tim,
If you want to get together and brew or just hang out that sounds good to me. Even if you just need someone to talk at for a while, I'm a good listener. Not sure yet what my work schedule is going to be like through the holidays but I'm sure we can work something out. Let me know what works for you. Next club meeting is 7:00 PM this Monday, Dec 7th at Sherwood but I'm not sure if I'm going to get out of work in time to get there. Sherwood is on my way home so if your going to be there let me know and I will stop in and say hello at the very least.
Hang in there buddy. Talk to you soon,
Bill

Yes TimO...I stop in at the NB forum as well. I live about 60 miles from St. Paul and get to the shop fairly often.
-
Yeah, this really digs into the beer culture as well. Instead of going to the club meeting to see Fred and Bill and others last night, I ended up taking my wife to her pre-surgery checkup. So, I missed another meeting.....there will be more.
Bill, I'll let you know. Fred, got your message about the legislation, will submit a gripe on all our behalf.
Would like to do a brew before the end of the year with a couple of you guys.

We've been through similar with some friends and family as well...thoughts are with you both!
Stay strong!

Tim,
Hope all goes well tomorrow. You wife is in our thoughts and prayers.
Bill

That sucks! My thoughts are with you and your wife.
-
Still been sparse, but I'll brew with Fred Bonjour tomorrow for a Brew Years Brew with some friends.
An update:
Chemo starts Jan 14th and goes til some time in April. Then Radiation, then reconstructive surgery. Seems that the baseline for positive cancer in the lymph nodes is four before they consider radiation. She had six of twenty four removed test positive. Not going to be fun. We have great friends supporting us and helping my daughter to get thru it as well.
We're getting by with humor. Buying funky scarves she can wrap overt her head to look ridiculous, looking at buying funny colored wigs, best way to handle it....light hearted.

Good to hear from you, Tim. Have a great brew day with Fred. All the best wishes to you, your wife and family in the coming year!
-
As they say, laughter is good medicine and will certainly help your wife and you as she goes through her treatments and surgery. Keep laughing and best wishes in this New Year. Your family will be in my thoughts, hope to hear good news from you as the year progresses.

Sorry for you and the Mrs., TimO. :( My wife is hard to get to go to the doctor for anything, that and we don't have insurance anymore so I don't know how we would afford it though I wish we could. My wife is 50 now and should be checked every year, ironically the government says they need to be checked only every two years now?
-
Thanks all !!!
Gail, your words are salve my friend !!! Commencing to laugh.....
Denny, a happy one to you sir!! We had an exceptional brew day in the single digit temps. Best time of year to brew IMHO. Fred, I brought home some of your brews after you left. Sorry pal. I'll make it up to you on the trip to HopCat this weekend. For all, one of the students in our class is now a head brewer at a brewery in Grand Rapids, Mi. Fred and I are visiting him this saturday to see how all is going and deliver some Roselaire yeast packets for a 'project'.
Dean, I sincerely hope your wife has no issues during this time. I can ampathise with you. If it can be done, have her checked every year. If I had followed the governments warning, then I could have waited til next year. It may have spread and been more than a stage 1 if we had waited.
