Because I figured, you know, what the hell.
It's kind of cool. And I haven't smoked a real cigarette since Thursday morning.
Now I find myself mixing up different juice flavors. I fear I may be turning this into a hobby.

Nice, that's a good start anyway. When i see or hear "E-cig" I will always think of a story I just read by Patty Houston called "Wargasm." A brilliant short story that you can find in the latest copy of Oxford American (The Future Issue 2010). Cheers and good luck with the e-cig

It's odd, this thing. The nicotine hit is much, much different and I can see myself being easily able to wean myself off of the stuff with this. But the actual "smoking" experience is actually more pleasurable than the "real" thing, due to the fact that it actually tastes and smells good.
So I'm kind of worried that it's actually making the mental habit stronger, even though it's supposedly 1,000 times safer than tobacco and there are zero carcinogens. I guess at a certain point you just do whatever it takes. Switching over wasn't even like quitting, so I can see this being a lasting change. If it keeps me from dying of lung cancer I'll takes me chances with the rest.

I have been the gambit...successfully now over a year I might add...I got my best help by
CHEWING hops...prefer flowers do not like the texture of pellets. Just a pinch between
the cheek and gum...amazing the effect of the alpha acids and resins that kind of numb
your tongue.
Good luck on your adventure...
Oh and BTW, I am trying this method to cut down on eating food...just a pinch between
the cheek and gum...prolly get some new unheard of ailment from hops but for now...shrug...

Not me, man. I buy online with as little actual human contact as possible. Plus, I can tell when the person on the other end isn't wearing pants. It's like a 6th sense.

you didnt get this thing to try and stop smoking did you?

Well, I got it to stop smoking cigarettes. Which I did.

it doesn't seem like this would help you quit... merely redirect you to something being marketed as 'healthier'....
-
I think the problem is that most of it is the habit not the addiction. Its the oral gratification.
Ya just have to find something else to shove in your mouth and suck on.

A beer bottle? A picnic tap?

Yes. Something that doesn't contain known carcinogens. Like those things I apparently no longer smoke.
Cap, I see what you're doing there, I just choose to ignore you. There'll be plenty of time for uncomfortable humor when we're packed into a winnebago with no escape. And a banjo.

Bluesman smokes cigars. maybe he will go on the trip too.

Just don't tell me how purty my mouth is....
And from there the thread deteriorated....
Chew Hops man....they really work.

I've actually done that, and enjoyed it, but it's not smoking. More like a big, fat dip. I like smoking. A lot.

I don't smoke cigarettes. But this thread has convinced me to give the e-cig a try.
-
Pretty cool idea. Even better if it helps you quit.
I'll stick with my cigars. 8)

I just got back in from a hot tub smoke with a Macanudo Cru Royale and a glass of Bookers. :)

You should.*
From what I understand of the science, most of the nicotine absorbtion from these is through the nose and mouth, so inhaling is actually, in theory, completely optional. And they have some really amazing flavors - I've been vaping a blend called "Wyatt Earp" which is a very aromatic, pipe-tobacco sort of flavor. It's very nice.
* No, you shouldn't. They're bad for you.
-
I just wanna look hip and cool without the icky cancer side affects. :)

I know, right? These things are brilliant for that!
Although the one interesting thing I learned is that most of the flavor in tobacco products comes from flavoring additives. Marlboros taste like Marlboros and Camels taste like Camels because they have a secret formula just like Coke that they spray on their dried 'baccy. I also learned that menthol is especially bad for you.
-
So where do they make the cartridges that you use in the e-cigs?
-
China, naturally. And, yes, I know where you're going with that. All I can say is that I did some research into the brand I chose (which is actually a local company) and their oversight and testing of their products. Some companies simply rebrand bulk imports, whereas this one actually has an engineer living in Shenzhen who has been working with the factories to develop a custom product. So do I trust it as much as an American-made carto? No, but there are no American-made cartos. Do I trust it more than other Chinese-made cartos? Yes. Do I trust it more than American-made cigarettes? Yes.
Juice is another matter. I believe that theirs is sourced from Dekang (awaiting confirmation), which again, I find to be the lesser of evils for various reasons. I am researching other options and tooling up for DIY blends, but that is also a road fraught with peril. For reasons I won't get into here, I don't implicitly trust American manufacturers any more than I trust Dekang. But I still have a lot of homework to do. In the meantime, I am still convinced that it is a likely harm reduction over cigarettes.
-
Yeah, it's hard to argue that there might be increased health risks over what you've already got with cigarettes. Still, Chinese quality control makes me cringe a bit. Glad to see you did some research on the source though.
-
Some of the stories you hear about these manufacturers are... interesting. ;D
-
As one who hasn't smoked in 10 years this all sounds like a REALLY bad idea......
-
I was considering taking up smoking. Should I start with the gum or the patch? :D

In my experience, it's hard to keep the gum lit.
-
The patch does not smell good at all when it burns.
