Title: DFH b****es Brew
Post by: theomb on February 10, 2011, 07:37:57 PM
I gotta say, guys (and gals)...I found a bottle of this at a pizza/brew pub in DC, and I couldn't believe what I was tasting.  Velvety smooth imperial stout, combined with nice honey notes and gesho.  My buddy is also a craft beer enthusiast, and he agreed it was simply amazing.  I understand this beer debuted at Savor last year?  Any word on if they plan on a re-release?

I saw some in the bottle shop a couple of months ago, but not since.  Maybe soon?

I am heading down to my LHBC meeting at Dogfish Head tonight. I want to pick up another bottle of this very fine brew.

Great brew!  8)

I have a bottle in my fridge that I picked up in CT around Christmas time.  May have to crack it open this weekend.

Love 'em both!   ;D

I have a bottle in my fridge right now that will be cracked in the near future.  Found it for $35 at that restaurant, and thought it was worth it.  Paid about the same for each bottle that I bought on eBay recently.  I gave the other to my father for a birthday gift!

Man, I'd love to see this beer re-released.  It's just too good to not have a regular production run.  I'd love to have this on cask, as well!

I'm gonna bump this one to the top. I did not find any when it was first released and now our area is getting it in bottles. I happened upon it on draft the other night and found it dry, bone dry in fact. Just didn't quite work for me, but the bottles might prove different. I know people who got it raved about this when it first came out, but I wonder if that was partly based on hype or if that original beer was that much better.

Or I am just getting old and picky?  :o

Think: Miles Davis

Sometimes I miss living on the East Coast.  No DFH beers here.   :(

I have a bottle (that I drank) saved from batch 1 when it first came out.  I just traded for a bottle of the latest batch (batch 3?  2012?).  I find it to be a very different and interesting stout that's well worth tasting.  I honestly bought the first bottle because of the artwork and notoriety (from the TV show), but it's certainly a worthy beer.  I think this will be my fourth bottle I've traded for.

However, at the price, if you're not really into imperial stouts and/or the novelty of the brew, it's pretty expensive (I think I'm trading at about $15 a bottle for it, close to what it was going for in 2010/11).

Obviously most everything from DFH is great though.  I've had a hard time finding anything from them that wasn't delicious.

I just realized I still have this bottle in my fridge.  Original release I believe and hard as hell to find ( the liquor store had them in the back and you had to ask specifically for it).

Now I can get it off the shelf locally.

I had a couple of bottles last year and I didn't find it to be bone dry. Haven't tried this years release yet so can't comment, but you've peaked my interest. I'll pick up a bottle at my next club meeting at the brewpub in Rehoboth, then I'll try to give you feedback on this.

Even better if you run across it on draft. I just found it overly dry.

Had a bottle over the weekend.  Thought it was pretty darn good!  Nice roast flavor, no astringency, malty backbone.  Medium-full bodied.  Chocolate/coffee notes.

Great beer,  I'm finding that while Im lukewarm on their standard/flagship beers, their special releases simply rock, and are worth the money on special occasions.
