Title: Beer floats

My name is Jeff and I have sinned

I poured a Bourbon Vanilla Imperial Porter over 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream in a pint glass

It was good
Great actually

I've tried imperial stout floats and I think I honestly prefer good old root beer floats.  But the BVIP sounds like an ideal candidate if ever there was one!

Hi Jeff,

You don't have to go big to have a great beer float.  One of the best floats I've had was with the Porter at Rosie's Brewpub in Leadville, CO.

The best I've made though uses Young's Double Chocolate Stout and vanilla ice cream; DELICIOUS!!!!!

There's nothing wrong (IMHO) with blending beers, mixing beers, and making floats.

It sure does sound good.  8)

I actually just racked this fine beer onto the bourbon in a keg. I used a blend of three bourbons...Jim Beam, Knob Creek and Elijah Craig. 350 mL total for 5.5 gal. I tasted it out of the hydrometer tube and WOW  :o It was excellent.  ;D

Not exactly a "float" per se, but I have friends from Belarus, and they told me last summer stout with sour cream was the thing there. Sounds sick to me, but according to them it was good. I don't know what stout it was, nor do they, because their idea of good beer (before they got addicted to my homebrew) was Corona. The sour cream may have been sweetened.

My son called me a while back & said the Wee Heavy made a great float.  I haven't gone there.....

Sour cream varies too, I think "creme fraiche" is common in Europe and not perhaps as tangy.

Still, sour cream in beer might be a little too far for me at this point.  But in the same way that I can see a yogurt lassi being refreshing I can sort of see how sour cream might add a richness and zip to a stout.
