Title: i love cartoons!!
Post by: weazletoe on May 18, 2011, 04:19:11 AM
My name is Weaze, I'm 34 years old, and I love cartoons! American Dad, Spongebob, Family Guy, Simpsons, King of The Hill, Beavis and Butthead. This afternoon, I let out the gayest little squeal you ever did hear, when I saw Cartoon Network is show old Loony Tunes again. Coyote and Roadrunner, Marvin Martian, Foghorn Leghorn.....This stuff is great!!!!
Am I alone, or does anyone else feel the same way?

We were first introduced to Shaun the Sheep by our English friends. That show is hillarious.

Kids these days, though - have you seen that crap they watch these days? My wife's cousin's son spent the weekend here a while back and he wanted to watch "Tex Avery." "Oh, awesome!" I thought to myself - he was a great cartoonist, I'm happy the kid is watching something great like that instead of (ugh) Dragonball Z or some such nonesense.

No such luck - he meant "The Tex Avery Show." Check out this drivel:

compared to this:
(Tex Avery) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyJI31YO458
(Friz Freleng) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-_ck7AHKKE

No wonder the world is going to hell ;)

I read yesterday that Seth MacFarlane is negotiating to redo the Flintstones.
I read that yesterday too.  He's got to be so filthy rich.  He's got 3 shows in Fox's Sunday Night lineup: Family Guy, American Dad & The Cleveland Show.  Now, if he pulls this off, he'll have 4.

And not only is he the creator & producer, but he does multiple voices on each show.  He's raking in multiple paychecks, hand over fist.

I doubt Fox would pay him that way, unless it's a union requirement. I'd guess he gets a single nice paycheck and the VO work is a part of the job description, as it were. Still, yes, he makes more money that probably a few of us put together.

Re-worked Flintstones, that would be interesting. Think they'll include commercials? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dry97FwTUv4

Has no one watched Bob's Burgers?  Its on Fox and fairly new.  It cracks me up the way The Simpson's used to (let's be honest, The Simpson's has been pretty lame for a few years now) and the way Family Guy & American Dad still do.

Andy - not Futurama?  With a Bender avatar I'd have expected that to be on the list.  That's one of my favourites.  Watched all the new episodes when I was in the States.  Glad it's back.

Any Bugs is good as others have said.  Still watch Classic Scooby-Doo with the kids.  Penguins of Madagascar is pretty darn good for a new one, sometimes watch that with the boys too.

Everyone should do themselves the favor of watching Archer, its got to be one of the top 3 funniest shows on tv right now. H Jon Benjamin also does the voice of Bob from Bob's Burgers, another show that's growing on me.

Speaking about "new" cartoons, I still think spongebob is one of the most original and funny compared to the rest of the crap on today. it totally reminds me of stuff like hanna barbera and looney tunes.

I dunno, maybe its just me getting old but stuff like inuyasha, naruto and pokemon just don't hold a candle to some of the older anime stuff like Battle of the Planets, Starblazers, etc

Having a two year old daughter is nice because I can dive back into cartoons from my youth...

I was a devoted Garfield and Friends fan.  Its mild humour, but I love that show.  Shaun the Sheep is a great one, too, although my daughter watched each episode so many times I think we're all kind of done with it!  But I laugh like a hyena at Spongebob...and my daughter loves it too, so win-win!

I've been a long term South Park fan, but that almost doesn't qualify as a cartoon show, being completely adult-oriented.  Ahh, the old Disney shorts...now those are classics, I remember watching them on tape as a kid.  Particularly Donald Duck...remember the 1940s shorts where Donald gets drafted, goes behind enemy lines, trains for parachute jumping, etc?  Wartime Disney shorts were great!  I also always remembered the one where Donald and his nephews get into a snowball fight.  Classic stuff!

Futurama?  Of course!   ;)  It just slipped my mind since I haven't seen any new episodes expet the recent movies/DVDs - hopefully some station in Canada picks it up soon.

My kids would occasionally watch that one and I thought their voices would make my head explode.  How anybody could listen to that show is beyond me.

Phineas and Ferb

Out of all the cartoons my kids watch that's probably my favorite.  Although I can sit through Backyardigans too.   ;)

A few years ago typing that would probably have made me want to kill myself.  But I've adapted.   ;D

Love Animaniacs...a great homage to the glory days of WB animation.  Great stuff.
An old friend of mine directed quite a few of those episodes, as well as "Pinky And The Brain".

The influence of things like the classic cartoons (especially the Warner cartoons), Laurel & Hardy, The Three Stooges, and other mainstays of 1950's/60's television have left quite an influence on a generation of kids who came of age and became the movers and shakers of the entertainment industry.  And the influence shows.
(Animaniacs is a great example...the producer was Steven Spielberg)

Huh?

Quote from: Wikipedia
Clay-animated films were produced in the United States as early as 1908, when Edison Manufacturing released a trick film entitled The Sculptor's Welsh Rarebit Dream. In 1916, clay animation became something of a fad, as an East Coast artist named Helena Smith Dayton and a West Coast animator named Willie Hopkins produced clay-animated films on a wide range of subjects. Hopkins in particular was quite prolific, producing over fifty clay-animated segments for the weekly Universal Screen Magazine.

nobody has mentioned (or maybe i just overlooked it) Archer...

was a big fan of aqua teen hunger force when it first came out.

i don't really watch that much prime time tv but if i just happen to sit down and be channel surfing i'll always stop if family guy pops up.

for old school stuff, looney toons was my treat as a kid every evening from like 7 - 8 growing up, finished homework and that was that...was a huge transformers and voltron (tiger voltron of course) fan. i even remember catching a few episodes of tranzor-Z growing up with the infamous female mega robot that had missle boobs. never got into he-man or gi joe as much as many of my friends.
