Title: Would it be a carnal sin to combine Trappist and French Saison yeasts?

Saisons are a unique blend of france and belgium. Have at it!

I think you meant "cardinal sin" (serious lack of judgment) rather than "carnal sin" (getting busy with your neighbor's wife).   ;)

Belgians are creative but watch out for flavor clashes.  Depends on what kind of strains you use.  I would probably try to avoid the combination of a saison strain that produces any sourness with a Trappist strain that produces a lot of phenols.  Sour + phenol makes me think 'infected' rather than 'brilliant idea'.  But if you use ones that each give fruity complexity, then it might be pretty interesting.

I gotta start reading posts better... first off I missed the "carnal" "cardinal" thing - then I thought you meant mixing belegian and french saison strains. that said, I have found WLP565 can throw some clove like phenols so if you think you don't want that in your saison you might not use that strain.
