Title: How much did you brew in 2009?
Post by: Thirsty_Monk on January 02, 2010, 03:07:44 AM
I tally up my brewing logs from last year and I brew 25 times and made 125 gal of beer.

How much did you brew last year?

Disclamer:
This topic is not intended to be "I brew more then you".
Look in your logs and have a fun.

21 batches and 99 gallons -- a couple of 3 gallon batches in there. Only one recipe repeated, which I wouldn't have remembered without looking.

Cheers,

14 five gallon batches.  Honestly looking back I was surprised at how many batches I had made considering I can't brew from late spring to early fall because it's too warm in my house.  I just got a fridge to ferment in so this "no summer brewing" problem has now resolved.

17 five gallon batches and 1 3 gallon batch of mead.  Still have a smoked scotch stout, cali common, and the mead to bottle.  Now that I have deep freezer I hope to brew some lagers this year, thinking about starting with a german pils.

18 one keg batches averaging 5.5 gallons each for a total of 99 gallons

5 two keg batches averaging 12 gallons each for a total of 60 gallons

1 triple keg batch 16 gallons for a total of 16 gallons

So my yearly beer total was 175 gallons, which safely places me with-in the legal limit ;D

Oh yes I also did one 5.5 gallon batch of mead

I have no idea how much I brewed last year. I don't really feel like going and adding up pages of notes - probably way more than I was supposed to. ;)

My beer hobby suffered - only 5 batches for 57 gallons (11 or 12 gallons each).

Also started 23 gallons of Bordeaux style wine (bulk maturing now), bottled 26 gallons of last year's pinot noir (132 bottles),

bottled 5 gallons of mead, made 10 gallons of cherry port fortified with French brandy (bottled half this weekend), 5 gallons of hard cider, and 2 or 3 couple-gallon batches of limoncello.

I expect beer production will go up in 2010 now that I built a kegerator with 3 taps and room for couple more picnic taps.

27 brew sessions => 175 gal.  I think I may have forgotten to record a couple of recipes but it was still a very good brewing year.  I also made a couple batches of wine.

12 brews @ 5 gallons each.  I was a little busy having a kid and taking the bar exam this year.   ;)  2010 should be a more fruitful brew year for me.

6 full and 2 half batches, for 35 gallons total. Not a banner year, but not bad considering my equipment was in storage for four months of it.

Looks like I have 17 batches in the log book.  That wouldn't include the "no pants" batches.  To count those I'd have to be sober.

Too much, yet not enough!!!   I can't keep up with drinking what I brew, yet I want to try new tweaks.  Luckily I have some grateful friends to help me out.  I brewed 200 gal, and I'm sticking to that.  ;)

I brewed 14 batches.  Four, I believe, were 3 gallon batches and 11 were 5 gallon batches.  I also did one 3 gallon batch of mead.  So that would be 70 gallons brewed.  I took about 3 or 4 months off between May and September due to lack of funds to brew and moving to a new place.  I started kegging this winter so hopefully this year I'll be brewing a lot more.

I brewed 12 batches. 9 were 3-gallon batches, 3 were 5-gallon. 1 never made it to bottling... it got contaminated in a minor disaster. I batch was all-grain, 2 were extract, and 9 were partial-mash. (I'm a sissy, I brew on the stove in my cozy kitchen...) I'd say half the batches were really drinkable, the rest were experiments of varying quality, some quite awful. The next-to-last batch was a clone of Bell's Two-Hearted Ale, and mmmmm it was GOOD. Could have punched up the dry-hopping a bit but it was still a yummy yummy brew.

I had to stop brewing due to a cross-country move, but in a month I'll be ready to brew again. The first beer I will brew I'll name JSJ (for John, Sarah, and Jesse of the Homebrew Den in Tallahassee).  I don't plan to brew as much this year... but will have a good time every time I do!

I brewed 16 (~12 gallon) batches for a total of ~192 gallons.  I also entered almost every beer I made (15 of the 16) into homebrew competitions receiving feedback plus a few ribbons.

It was a particularly "off-production" year for me @ only 18 batches (136USG) of beer, 1 batch (3USG) of cider, 8 batches (43.5USG) of mead and 3 batches (19.5USG) of wine for a grand total of 202USG. Not bad, but during peak production in 2002 my homebrewery hit over +500! However, if anyone wearing a government vest asks, "I only brew the legally alloted 200USG per household."  :o

I thought it would be good to copy the limitaions on homebrewing in the US. The following was copied from Wikipedia.

Many homebrewing related articles and books mistakenly claim that, in 1979, President Jimmy Carter signed into law a bill explicitly allowing home beers and winemaking, which was at the time illegal as a holdover from the prohibition of alcoholic beverages (repealed in 1933). In fact, the U.S. Congress passed an Act in 1978 exempting a certain amount of beer brewed for personal or family use from taxation. President Carter signed the Act, which addressed other issues as well.

States remain free to restrict, or even prohibit, the manufacture of beer, mead, hard cider, wine and other alcoholic beverages at home. For example, Ala. Code § 28-1-1 addresses the illegal manufacture of alcoholic beverages in Alabama, and no other provision of Alabama law provides an exception for personal use brewing.

Ala. Code § 28-1-1 - "In all counties of the state it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to have in his or its possession any still or apparatus to be used for the manufacture of any alcoholic beverage of any kind or any alcoholic beverage of any kind illegally manufactured or transported within the state or imported into the state from any other place without authority of the alcoholic control board of the state, and any person, firm or corporation violating this provision or who transports any illegally manufactured alcoholic beverages or who manufactures illegally any alcoholic beverages shall, upon conviction, be punished as provided by law."
Interestingly, several homebrew stores operate in Alabama, so the status of homebrewing as an enforcement priority with the Alabama Alcoholic Control Board is unknown.

However, most states permit homebrewing, allowing 100 gallons of beer per person over the age of 21 per year and up to a maximum of 200 gallons per household annually when there are two or more adults residing in the household. Because alcohol is taxed by the federal governments via excise taxes, homebrewers are restricted from selling any beer they brew. This similarly applies in most Western countries.

I'm sad to say that I only got in twelve 5-gallon batches for a total of 60 gallons.  That's pretty weak!  In my defense, we had our 2nd son born in May, so things have gotten pretty crazy around here.  I did recently upgrade to a keg system, which makes we want to brew as much as possible.  Shooting for at least twice that amount this year!

25 5 gallon batches this year, a little less than last year, but the beer was better this year, and they were all AG this year.
