i thank everyone for the responses I've gotten for whatever i've posted so far. and for whatever you post.
i brewed a wheat porter today and hit my target OG like nobody's business. i used some new techniques i've read about here and have refined my brewing process thanks to all you wonderful people and your experiences. i should have joined long ago.
I've brewed maybe 10 batches over a year an a half(3 in the last 6 weeks) and each one gets better. now that I'm with you folks, i can't wait to brew again. next week i'm doing an imperial ipa!
i'm hooked on this thing we call brewing.
good vibes to all brewers.

I'd agree that a good forum is maybe the single best resource you can have as a home brewer.
-
I agree wholeheartedly. This forum and it's readers/posters is a true gem. It's so refreshing to find actual kindness on the interwebs these days.
-
we're all trying to make better beer!
damn the torpedoes!
-
There are several good forums and I've found them all to have very friendly, helpful people. This one happens to have some of the most technically savvy folks on any forum.
-
Welcome to the AHA forum sparkleberry.
If I must say so myself, this forum is one of the best homebrewing forums in the great wide world of interweblactic brewing.
Cheers!

damn the torpedoes!
Sorry to disagree - SN Torpedo has its own shelf in my beer fridge.
I say damn the canoe beers! ;)
-
Word.
I even learned how to make soap.

SN has some of the best beers around...and it's not just one but most of their recipes are just fantastic.

The folks this board and Northern Brewer's forum have helped me become a much more successful brewer.
They have also gotten me to roast my own coffee, start playing around with smoking meats, read a few books I would never have found without their suggestions and made me more popular and better looking. ;)
All kidding aside, we can learn a lot for each other.
Thanks!
Paul

Very true, the more of my good brew the wife drinks, the better she says I look.

This is a great forum. Some of the best technical advice I've found on the web. Also, the camaraderie on this forum is unmatched; you'll rarely find trollish, antagonistic posts.

YOU talking to ME? Just kidding. I agree. I am a moderator on another (not brewing related) forum and I am amazed at how people will say something from behind a keyboard that they most likely would never say to your face. Mods here have a handle on how it should be done!
-
+1...it's a great community.
And it's amazing how even little bits and tips can transform one's mindset , even one that has been formed for so many years.
As of last Thursday, I've been a homebrewer for exactly 40 years (and all grain for 25 of those years).
But you never "know it all" and you never know if something new works for you unless you try it. And I've tried a bunch of new things since being here. Really, we never stop learning (as long as we're open to the idea) and even though I'm firmly set in some of my ways, a good many of the tidbits I've picked up in this forum have helped me a great deal.
So, the old saying notwithstanding....you can indeed teach an old dog new tricks.
Cheers! ;D

I really enjoy being able to talk story and joke around with like-minded people from all over the planet, at any time of day, instantaneously.
-
Welcome to the AHA forum!
What better place to learn and pass on the beer knowledge? And there is a lot to spread around. 8)

Al...you may hold the experience record here. :)

Definitely a big thanks goes out to everyone on here for improving my techniques, saving me time, and having a board to come to with such friendly individuals!
-
I am not one to call out problems but I have heard that some forums will answer questions with "Why don't you use the search function?"
Not here. I have seen more than one repetitive question answered with sincere info, help and concern.
I share the sentiment and CHEERS TO THE FORUM!!!
Thanks for not being difficult. Thanks for great help, friendship, and all around cool people!

You are right. One of the forums I use has a special feature called FOAG ( F*** off and google). It is a special google search engine that targets four forums that discuss that particular topic. Questions are often refered to go FOAG.
Is that really the level (or lack of) civility that our society has come to?
There are members of this forum that I adamantly disagree with on some subjects. However, I consider them to be good friends and feel lucky to have them as such. Lucky thing. If the only flavor was American Light Lager things would be way boring. Sometimes taking the high road means biting your tongue and keeping your fingers off of the Post button. That happens a lot here.
Plus, as irritating as the Mods can occasionaly be, they do an excellent job of reminding everyone to keep it civil; and we choose to listen. That is good for everybody.

This is by far my favorite brewing forum. Lots of expert opinions are presented. Yet even with differing viewpoints, it never degrades into an argument, only an intelligent discussion. Truly a great group of people here. Cheers!
-
Hmm...I really expected to see "Here's the deal, we're the best there is. Plain and simple. We wake up in the morning and we piss excellence" on this thread by now. :D
lots of knowledge on this board, and people willing to share it. Yep, good place.
cheers--

I'm really happy that this is how this forum is seen. Since it's inception in my mind 5 years ago, that's exactly the way I wanted things to work out. Let's all toast the AHA for providing us with this place, and toast each other for making it a great community.

And a heartfelt thanks for helping me become a better brewer!

"CLUNK" (mug that's full)
I've been brewering off and on for almost 20 years. I've been reading this forum for the past several months. Now I batch sparge, I'm paying attention to ph and adjusting my water, and I'll soon be using a stir plate. I'm liking the results!
Thank you for answering my questions!

Besides the civility here I like the fact that everybody shares interests not exactly related to homebrewing but definitely related to the "I am a homebrewer" mindset. Smoking meat, roasting coffee, making things like cheese and soap are all part of this wierd lifestyle we find ourselves in.

I'll second that motion. ;)

I agree that this forum has a lot going for it but I would like to see 1 change. On several occasions I've seen a civil discussion going on only to have one person come in and say something off the cuff and then say "and lock". I feel that the comment should be deleted and that person put on a temporary suspension for disrupting a thread that others are enjoying. Obviously, their only intent was to get the thread locked and many times they get their way. Just doesn't seem fair to me.
However, on a high note, keep up the good work! :)

I've noticed quite a few - like me - keep reef tanks. I guess it's the chemistry that interests people? pH, fancy controllers, thousands of $ worth of equipment that seemed like a good idea at the time, water profiles and additives. And building a balanced, attractive display of coral and other sea life seems to have some parallels with creating a recipe. (The "Limited Edition" side of coral is more like the whale hunters/tickers on BeerAdvocate though...)
Montiporaweizen, anyone? ;D
cheers--

Thanks for your thoughts. The mods will take that into consideration in the future.

Learning homebrewing in Italy is like learning in a vacuum. This forum has been a huge help for me. :)

I get the warm fuzzies reading this thread. If only more people were like homebrewers, the world would be a better place.

Actually what I find amazing is the low tech aspect of of all this. Who knew that making soap was so simple, that making vinegars or roasting coffee can be done at home with little or no special equipment.

I have been on Northern Brewer's forum for a while, but I joined AHA recently and I am enjoying this forum and the other benefits of AHA membership. No doubt the people who are homebrewers make homebrewing special. Thanks, folks!

Everyone's #1 priority is making good beer, and for that I'm very appreciative.
