Maybe it was.  ;) Hobbits always seemed a bit Scottish to me.

Older than any Pub I have been to. 

Thought 1189 was old.  But then again, that one is still serving.

When I was in Scotland pretty much every pub claimed it was the oldest in Scotland, so I'm still skeptical :)

If there was knowledge of brewing there was surely a facility to brew.  :)
