Ya know, people are always less impressed with me after they meet me.....;)

My wife and I drove up from California to visit Big Brew 2005 at Denny's.  The whole experience with the group of brewers that were there that day as well as the whole charm of the Eugene area sold us that that is where we wanted to call home.  By October of that year we had backed up our bags and moved to that area.  The people that we met that day and the days following that are now our lifetime friends.

Sorry I did not make it out there this year.  With the nice weather we have been having, things in the vineyard have really taking off.  I was thinking of you though.

Cheers.

It must have been a temporary glitch as I was able to log in this morning.

I'm getting the same error "Server Error in '/apps' Application".  Has the problem been identified?

Me too.  Trying to log in to renew membership.  I guess that they don't want my money :(

I'm sorry to hear that.  Around here, there are trees everywhere loaded with fruit.  Most are just letting the fruit fall and rot.  I always think how nice it would be to be able to harvest all that fruit.  With the cycle of things, we probably will have a light crop next year.

Very nice! I love the seasonal nature of wine and cider production. It's something you don't get from brewing.

Yeah, the apple harvest has big this year too.  We have picked over 500 lbs off of our trees.  There is still a whole lot more still on the trees.  Dried some, lots of apple sauce canned, 26 qts of juice canned, 20 gallons cider fermenting.

Here are two different pressings, about 2 weeks apart.  Interesting how the earlier pressing (the two on the right) is so much darker than the newer one.

Thanks Diane.  Our vineyard is close to half an acre.  It is not big enough to do anything with it commercially.  Our friends a street over have 2 acres in vines and they have enough to do something commercially with a growers privilege permit.  I would think that 2 acres would be a minimum.

My wife and I have a small vineyard that we planted 5 years ago.  This year was an awesome growing year in Oregon.  We harvested our grapes on Friday and ended up with 470 lbs of Pinot Noir and 140 lbs of Pinot Gris.  There are still about 50 lbs of Riesling that are not ready yet.  Having a vineyard is really a lot of work between April and October and it keeps us from having time to brew beer, however, it does feel good to have a good payoff from our efforts.  Now that harvest is over, we are looking forward to getting back to brewing.  Here are some pictures of this years efforts.

Three Pinot Noir clones, 115, 667, 777.  Each are being fermented with different yeasts.

Pimp My System / Re: March pump

I am not exactly sure what you are referring to as to the soda pump.  Awhile back, I was given several of the pumps that are used in the dispensing systems found at fast food restaurants.  These pumps are air driven, most likely CO2.  I tried to use them for hot wort transfer and they completely failed.  They could not handle the hot wort.

fenugreek is a possibility too. It is used in a lot of "cheap" maple syrups, and I have heard of it being used in maple syrup beers to up the maple flavor.

Definitely not in the Rogue beer.  I'll see John next Mon. and try to remember to ask him.
Denny, John said the maple is extract when we were talking to him about it the day we were there.

A few hours later when cleaning, I saw the problem. The hose that connects the false bottom to the valve came disconnected, so we were just draining through the valve.

Yeah, that happened a few times for us with our Igloo and a false bottom.  Had to be really careful when mashing in.  The Igloo has been retired, using a Coleman Xtreme with a braid now.

Yeah, our club is swerving at club night.  Look for a booth that looks like Ken Kesey's bus!

That depends on who we let drive the bus.

Reading John's T-Shirt, I think he is a Super-Hero! "Call Hopman, we need to add more hops!"

That had to be a fun day.

Yes, it was indeed a fun day.  I was glad to have had the opportunity to participate.

I'll be brewing at Denny's for Big Brew.  Going to brew a 10 gallon batch of Stone Pale Ale using the recipe in the Craft of Stone book.  This will be my 301st batch brewed and first 10g batch.

Events / Re: NHC Certificates...
« on: May 03, 2012, 08:23:36 AM »
The whole reason I asked is because I have recently moved and have not been receiving Zymurgy. My account had my previous address listed and they stopped forwarding mail last month. Then I thought about the other things that the AHA might have potentially shipped to me...like certificates :)

When we changed our address to a PO box, I missed out on 2 editions of Zymurgy even though I had changed the address on our AHA account. Your address for Zymurgy needs to be changed by following what is listed in the front of the magazine.
