Good to know! I don't mind dedicating the fermenter, since I have a conical for my regular brews. My question now is about my Blichman Beer Gun. Can I use it to bottle a Brett beer without tainting all subsequent bottled beers?
I'm nervous about the same thing as well. I've only bottled mixed ferment beers with the Beer Gun so far.
I have successfully bottled a brett-only beer after brett-bacteria beers, but its only a matter of time before risking it catches up with you. Ask my funky quad (accidentally used the wrong sample thief).
When I go to bottle the next clean beer, I'll probably buy another accessory kit ($20 is worthwhile insurance to me).
I am worried about the rubber ball (valve seat) at the end of the gun. It doesn't come with the kit (it should), but I'll probably also buy a spare ball for clean beers and keep it with the kit.
I wish everyone would stop being so nice about last year's banquet meal. Worst entree I've ever had at an AHA Conference.
Dave Barber and the Leigh Valley table last year was great to watch.
KC - March 28/29
Philly - March 28/29
San Diego - 4/4
Seattle - 4/4
St. Paul - 4/11
Denver? - 4/11
I would guess that the remaining sites have not nailed down something with the AHA yet.
updating, 12 sites now appear on the BJCP competition list.
3/28: Kansas City, Austin, NYC, Nashville
4/4: Philly, San Diego, Seattle, Zanesville, Sacramento
4/11: Denver, St Paul, Chicago
hopefully the dates stick but looks like all the sites are at least decided.
I just use a syringe marked in ml. Too easy?
I stopped by this store once and while I wasn't buying hops at the time it shocked me that they were not storing their hops in a refrigerator. I would never buy hops from a HBS that didn't store their hops cold.So you know the store I speak of? For your location, can I assume your LHBS is Keystone Homebrew? The owner of my LHBS says he learned much of the business from your LHBS owner. Still much to learn, Grasshopper. Well, too late now. There's a bulk hop order in my near future. Should have some nice, fresh hops just in time to brew an IPA for War of the Worts.
http://www.yakimavalleyhops.com/mobile/default.aspx looks like they have a great selection and pretty good prices.
I make one once a year. 80% 6 row, 20% corn meal cereal mashed. Cluster for bittering to 38 IBU (total with late additions calculated in the total) then Jamils late Saaz additions. WLP 833.
Got a first place in NHC first round, 38 in second round with no medal. The judges said they got corn, not bitter enough. Will bump it up in IBUs next time.
