+1 on the oak.....The first thing I thought of when I read that article was oak. I am brewing a brown this weekend, but the next beer I brew will be a black IPA.

All Grain Brewing / Re: Barley Crusher in today!

I have that 15lb Barley Crusher. I've probably crushed grain for 30 batches or so already and it works like a charm. Great value!

I don't even care what this thread is about or that I am a nerd. I just like the title. I am going to keep myself from making a "Holy Grail" comment though. That is how much of a nerd I am. I know that it doesn't fit with the subject.

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: Brew Balls?

I'd put my own balls in my beer before I wasted that kind of money on such a useless product. Good thing for me and my friends I'm not into wasting money.

Awesome! I had hoped with the center ring it would work. Exactly the reason that I asked!!!

Has anyone used a 2 inch stir bar with the StirStarter that they sell on eBay? Thanks.

There is no need to do a starter for Brett in a secondary fermentation is there? Thanks!

Brew Strong on the brewing network is the best. I have quite honestly learned more from them then any other way. Jamil Zainesheff and John Palmer host it. Check out iTunes and give me credit for turning you on to them!

Equipment and Software / Chest Freezer
« on: January 31, 2010, 02:35:36 PM »
So I came into a 7 cubic foot chest freezer today. I was looking for something to keep my fermentation temperatures consistent. I already have a thermostat to use with it, but need to figure out some configurations to get as many carboys in there as possible. Does anyone out there have this same size freezer and perhaps angle their carboys using some kind of brace to maximize the space? Pictures would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm adding it to the secondary. Pitching from a Wyeast pack. I hadn't planned on making a starter for the Brett, but will definately make one for the primary yeast. It's actually a recipe that I got in Jamil and Palmers BCS.

I'm a big fan of their beers. I especially like the Hop Devil. Yesterday I was able to pick up a bottle of the Wild Devil which is basically the Hop Devil fermented totally using Brettanomyces. It was pretty good although I expected it to be a bit more funky.

The grain may be a little more expensive, but I haven't found a better deal around yet.
