I would consider mixing it, but the suggestion to dump it isn't a bad one.  I had to dump a batch, and while it hurt a little, in the end it was about $16 worth of ingredients and I'm not broke.  Time counts for something, but again, I'm not broke for time either.  After the little bit of sting, I just brewed another batch and moved on.

PBR was the preferred brand of commercial brew of our club president and founder.  Sadly, he passed away several years ago.  In his honor someone brings a can of PBR to our club meetings every month.

I always thought PBR was pretty good for what it is.  No problem drinking a toast to a fallen beer comrade, whatever his poison.

Coincidentally, it also makes a fine brew.

I'm going to try 565 pretty soon.  Gotta try everything at least once.  Right now I've got 029 in the fermenter, we'll see what happens.

I'm really hoping you guys can finally make it into the 18th, err, 19th, errrrr, (as slowbrew said), the 20th century.  ::)

I'm not so sure apricot would go well with Northern Brewer hops. Maybe add a couple drops to a pint after the beer is kegged to see if you like it before you dose the whole batch. If you're looking for something more than the kit provides, try tossing an extra oz or two of Cascade or N. Brewer in at flame-out. Or dry hop it.

I'm partial to cascade, but an extra ounce of [insert hops here] at flameout (or dry hop) would probably be just right. 

I would be cautious with the apricot extract.

Just got some, it was in sixers.  Didn't actually check the year but I thought it was 2013.  Met its usual standard of excellence.  Probably my favorite barleywine (although olde school and weyerbacher insanity are contenders).  I like the high hops, it's almost like an IPA in some ways, but maltier and thicker.  I have had them aged but didn't think it was worth aging over just drinking fresh.

Here's the recipe and procedure for Bleach Blonde Ale, partial mash that I made when I was doing extract batches.  It went over quite well.  I've since adapted the recipe several times for all grain (it's a "house beer").

I usually use 2-3 oz, dry hop in primary, and leave them in for the last 5 days or so. 

I don't do secondary unless there's a very specific reason to do so.  "Brewing a pale ale or IPA" is not a reason to do so.  In fact, I've only done a secondary twice, ever, once for fruit and once for a stout with vanilla, but probably didn't need to on the stout.

But any town with a few thousand people can support at least one brewpub, and the vast majority don't have one yet. In most of the country, small breweries are still confined to large cities, but as their influence continues to grow they'll jump-start interest in local beers in smaller markets as well.

And damn well they should!  Craft brewing really brings people together.  In less than two weeks I'm going camping with a bunch of people to celebrate RABC (Blanco Brewery) and their anniversary.  We're camping just down the street and the bunch of us are going to celebrate with them.  Their beer is very good.  I've already rated several and bought several more than once (a sure sign of good beer).  Support local breweries!

I'll offer a slightly different opinion.  If they're really good guys, charitable, nice, community oriented, then it would be cool to see them succeed. 

Which they won't if someone doesn't decide to be dead honest with them about their beer.  If there's something as simple as stuff that most of us already know (yeast pitching rates, cleanliness, fermentation temperatures) then they are doomed to fail if someone doesn't set them straight, now.  A failure of a brewery might let someone else get cheep equipment down the line but I don't think it really helps the craft beer cause very much.

I made a stout with not that many oats in it that was really slow to sparge.  Should have used some rice hulls.

Bottling Pliny the Elder clone-ish attempt.  Might brew a pale ale tomorrow if I get started early enough.
