Pimp My System / Re: Pimped out grain mill

A geared motor would be great! However... the garage door open was free. Here's a question... why does it need to run backwards?

In case it doesn't catch the free roller or it jams.

I didn't think of that. Well, it's easy enough to wire in a forward/reverse switch to it if need be.

I think you'd be much better off using a gear drive! No belts or chains. Also, with a Barley Crusher it needs to be reversible.

It spins faster than I can crank it for more than about 30 seconds.
I haven't run a batch through it, yet... so I don't know how long it takes, but I'm guessing about 2.5 minutes for 10 lbs.
I'm going guard free... I like the danger factor! haha

I was given an old garage door opener. Had some scrape wood and a switch. Bought some wheels. Haha... it took two electricians to figure out how to get it to run just one way, though. I like it!

Beer Recipes / Blanche de Bruxelles... I'd like to brew a clone
« on: January 17, 2011, 01:00:18 PM »
Thee most goodest Belgian Wit I've had in recent memory is Blanche de Bruxelles. It's just so smooth and mellow. Lucky they have it on tap at Reuben's in Boulder, CO!

Does anybody out there have a clone recipe for it? Any ideas on the grain bill? Spices? Yeast? Temps?

Thanks!
Chris

Equipment and Software / Soda Stream to carbonate beer???
« on: December 15, 2010, 04:26:58 PM »
Looks like I'm getting a Sodo Stream machine for Christmas. Google it.. they're cool!  I'll use it as intended, but It gave me an idea. I want to make some small batches of ice beer from what I have brewed and kegged. I'll probably pull off 1.5L into  a 2L bottle and freeze it. Once I extract the good stuff, I'm thinking I'd give the Soda Stream a shot at infizzerating it. I talked to a sales person about the machines, and she said you can only carbonate plain water with the machine, otherwise it just turns to foam. I'm wondering if I leave it hooked up fpr a few days, the C02 might desolve into the beer. Anybody here had any luck with this?

Anybody have any other good ideas about how to carbonate a 1-2 L. amount of beer?

Thanks!

You can get plain paddles cheap and go into business :)

Once the design is set it'll be easy to crank them out on demand.  Looks like a pretty good markup.

Wow... $15.00 is cheap. That's a good find. However... and there is always a however in life... I like the idea of making them all in house, though... I can control the quality of hard maple myself. Plus, I like the expanded end on the handle side I'd have if I made them fully in my shop.

These guys sponsored the last big competition my club ran - they do custom mash paddles and brewery signs.

Those are cool! I have a CNC router... I could make those. Why haven't I done that!?

The hops aren't dry!

Just a question I've had on my mind...
