Just reiterating Maris Otter rocks, and I get mine from MidCountry Malt.

Last time I checked, MidCountry Malt didn't ship small shipments (1  sack or so).  Has that changed?  Or did you do a bulk buy?

It would be great if I could order from MidCountry - they are much closer to  me than their east coast location

Other Fermentables / store-bought juice with preservatives

I have a couple gallons of apple juice from the store, which I had intended to make into cider.

However, the label says it includes potassium sorbate, which I believe is supposed to stop yeast reproduction.

Is it possible to ferment it? (1 gallon batch) I was thinking about dumping it on a Montrachet yeast cake from a current cider ferment (1 gallon, also).  My intent with the yeast cake would be to pitch higher cell count, since they theoretically can't reproduce with the sorbate.

Thoughts?

Since this is the AHA, and all, my mash tun is a sort of a Denny Conn-ized ZAPAP:

a 6-gallon plastic bucket with a hose braid, instead of the original ZAPAP's false- bottom approach.

I insulate it with whatever is convenient at mash-in - works great, actually.

I owe a lot of brewing enjoyment to that setup, and those who inspired it.
