Thanks, I did use a drop of fermcap, or AIH's equivalent. It spelled just like bread dough. Crazy, I have done a few starters and never had this happen

Yeast and Fermentation / Starter Problem
« on: February 02, 2014, 12:37:54 PM »
Well, I made a 2 liter starter yesterday at noon for my Belgian Abbey Yeast. Put it on the stir plate everything was going well. Went to bed and woke up to a gooey doughy mess spilling over my beaker.

Making a 5 gallon batch or Belgian Blonde. Is there enough yeast left?

My first one came about a week ago, had a pin hole in the bottom of it. Called up SS Tech. and they gave me $50 back and sent me a new bucket. It arrived two days ago and it is free of leaks. I plan on brewing Monday, yeast starter is spinning away tonight.

Yeast and Fermentation / Pitched a 2nd type of Yeast....
« on: September 27, 2013, 05:38:18 PM »
OK, so long story kind of short. I brewed Sunday night. I pitched two bags of 6 month old London Ale Wyeast. After four days (Thursday night) there was no change in gravity, no change in temp and no krausen. So I sprinkled a pack of Windsor on top, WAA-LAA activity ever since. My question is; are my flavors going to be all jacked up due to using two different kinds of yeast...and is it even work washing this yeast and keeping?

Ingredients / I Want to Buy Hop Crowns
« on: August 22, 2013, 04:15:10 PM »
Anyone know a good place to find some Hops. I do not want rhizomes, I want an actual crown. I live in Northern Cali, so I can put them in the ground anytime of the year. I found a few on ebay but though I better look around a little before pulling the trigger on that. Anyways, a point in the right direction would be awesome
