Yeast and Fermentation / Reviving a yeast cake
« on: January 07, 2010, 12:33:49 AM »
I've had a jar of yeast that I saved from the yeast cake of a previous brew about 3 months ago.  It is probably on the order of 8 ounces of slurry.  How do I revive it if I want to use it this weekend to brew?

I made a batch of my Mayan Red Fire Chili today.  Instead of using ground turkey, I added some leftover pulled, smoked turkey breast.  It has an awesome smoky spice.  Steam beer is a perfect campadre.

Man that looks awesome and also the brew...

The Pub / La Boca de Fuego margarita
« on: November 13, 2009, 07:30:53 PM »
My step daughter and her boyfriend taught me this one.  It's great to serve anytime but especially when serving mexican food.  Basically I take a bottle of fine tequila.  I like Patron Silver.  You take two or three habanero peppers, cut the tops off and toss them in the bottle to steep.  It's best to wait a couple of days to allow the flavor and hotness to permeate the tequila.  You then use your favorite recipe to make a margarita.  I like to use Grand Marnier.  This stuff can be hot but is very tasty.

The Pub / Re: The Martini Thread

I don't think that I have ever had a good martini.  It's not that I hate them or the taste of gin it's just that they come out a bit on the bland side for me.

It's been posted now.  Not raunchy, perhaps a bit dry in a scientific way but I found it informative.

I know that the apocalyptic scenario movie "2012" starts this weekend there in the US.  I thought that you might be interested to see an article from Sky and Telescope magazine giving an astronomical and factual perspective.  Enjoy!

I'm fine with it as long it doesn't turn political or religious!

It shouldn't so I'll post it in a new thread.  If for some reason it turns either way, feel free to lock or delete it.

Hey Denny,
I was considering posting a link to an article in Sky and Telescope magazine giving the facts behind the upcoming Dec 21 2012 hoopla.  This may be on the fringe of what is appropriate on this site so I figured that I would check with you or any one of the mods first.  PM me for a link if you are interested.   I will not post it until I get a green light.
Thanks,
Monty

Other Fermentables / Re: Storing bottles on their side
« on: November 13, 2009, 03:16:33 PM »
I just keep my wine in cases, stored upright. I have a couple cases that are 2+ years old, no problems with corks drying out.

It sounds like I might have some time then.  I figure that in a year they will be all consumed so we'll see about storing them on their sides.  Thanks for all of the responses.
