Beer Travel / Re: My visit to an English Brewery

Those are great pics! I wish I could travel more. At least have some more options on TV.  Three sheets is cool but it would be nice just to have a brewery international show, anyone else agree?

I havent been there yet. Dream trip one of these days. Go to Japan every year and try to get some brews I can't find in South Dakota (insert joke here). It does seem very crazy all those drunk people and no fights. Next UN conference Munich beer gardens?

Beer Recipes / Re: T'ej Ale
« on: December 02, 2009, 05:42:18 AM »
Just had some of this (it is a bastardised version of T'ej Ale from Sam C's book Extreme Brewing) Pretty darn good. The alcohol burn has waned a bit (have access to an NIR machine was 9.8%). Next time probably forgoe the second hop addition. Wondering if anyone else has tried any of the recipes in Sam's book?

Beer Travel / Japanese beer

Just got back from JPN. Love the Asahi there (not quite like the 'imported' Canadian asahi here). Can't help but think that most of the big beers there all taste kinda alike. (not that that's a bad thing). Did not have time to search out craft brews while there, but will be back again soon. Any one have any suggestions? Spend most of our time in the Kansai area.

Commercial Beer Reviews / Lion Stout
« on: November 26, 2009, 01:41:50 AM »
I grabbed some Lion stout while on vacation recently (I live in the middle of nowhere-Blue Moon is exotic). Oh my, I need to make a clone of this! Only have 1 left, do I drink it or just stare at the bottle?

Beer Recipes / T'ej Ale
« on: November 26, 2009, 01:36:05 AM »
Just tried a weird version of Dogfishead's T'ej Ale. Made a starter 24hrs. before brewday with 3/4 cup light DME, 650ml water to boil, cool to 80ish and pitch Wyeast 4632 Dry Mead. Brewday: In a seperate pot, boil 8oz. gesho (an African tree root) with 1lb. Light DME for 20min. and set aside. In main brewpot, boil 3.3lbs light LME and 12lbs.(!) light amber honey (from Northern Brewer catalog). Add 2oz cascade hops.(60min.starts now). @30min. 2oz. cascade hops. 10 min. remaining, add yeast nutrient and the gesho boil mix. Cool down to 80ish and pitch yeast. Secondary 2 weeks later. Bottled 3 weeks after that. I tasted this a month later, highly carbonated, still a little hot (ABV 10%). Maybe great in a few more months. Any thoughts?
