Beer Travel / Re: Breweries in Asheville NC
« on: April 20, 2019, 04:24:04 PM »
Lots of great places to visit and you have very few that will disappoint. But a place you don't want to miss is Sierra Nevada at Mills River. It is Disneyland for beer geeks. Beautiful campus, and if you will be there on a Thursday register for the Beer Geek tour. I think it is up $40/person now, limited to 6 people, and only on  Thursdays with one in the morning and one in the afternoon. You get an (empty) 32oz Growler, tee shirt and if you are willing to drink it they will serve $40 worth of beer on the tour ending with samples of whatever is in the barrel room. It is near the Asheville airport so without a car it is a pricey Uber but worth the trip. Registration opens for each month two months before and afternoon tours fill fast, check the SN website for current details.

Other than that, in no particular order of preference:

Thirsty Monk
Hillman
Burial
One World
White Labs
Green Man (Dirty Jack's instead of the Green Mansion)
Bhramari
Hi-Wire
Wedge
New Belgium
Zebulon (a few mile north in Weaverville...unique Ales and worth the trip)
New Belgium
Wicked Weed/Funkatorium (if you are not opposed to them)

If you are central to downtown walking trip down the south slope will get you lots of great beer stops.

The Pub / Re: Seriously?!

I remember when Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout was an April Fools joke and now it's always on tap and in cans at Wynkoop. Still more of an oddity and never having consumed Rocky Mountain Oysters I'm not sure what I was supposed to get out of it but found it to be an enjoyable "Cream" Stout   ;D

Any locals recommend Psycho Suzi's? I saw it once on D,D&D and the food looked interesting, beer selection weak but acceptable.

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: Homebrewing tv show
« on: May 16, 2017, 09:51:40 PM »
I caught the first 3 episodes last night on On Demand. It seems to be more of a homebrew drinking show than homebrewing. And I assume Meg is very nice in person but her on screen persona comes across as about as exciting as a wet dishrag. All things considered the worst of the beer related shows I've seen.

Equipment and Software / Re: Another pump thread

Also, what are these Facebook home brew pages you speak of? Can I find them on the interwebs?

It is under Home Brew Network I think. You should be able to find the page but searching back for this discussion may be a bit of work, it was a few months ago.

These were discussed on one of the Homebrewing Facebook pages and there are mixed results from them. Some said they worked a few times and then quit never to work again and some had good success using them. So to respond to "you get what you pay for" I would add "you pay your money and you take your chances"

Will the AHA NHC app rolled out in San Diego be updated for Baltimore?

Beer Travel / Stillwater in Baltimore
« on: May 30, 2016, 01:06:04 AM »
Anyone from the Baltimore area know if there is anything (taproom, gift shop for bottles) at the Stillwater location listed in the NHC site for local breweries? I thought all of the beers were still "gypsy brewed" where there is capacity/collaboration, and the bottle of G13 I had last night shows as brewed by Crazy Mountain in Denver. I found one bar that had a significant amount of taps/bottles of Stillwater beers, if nothing to see onsite then tasting would be the best.

...digging a bit more on the new Stillwater site "of Love and Regret" is the place for Stillwater beers, confusing when BreweryMap shows a different location but the AHA map appears correct.

Events / Re: NHC 2016 and BNA11???

BNA11 is now available on the Conference Week Events (ConWeek Events?) link and lists transportation and 6:00 start time. Any info about the buses running continuously or just out and back once?

I just tried to register to judge the Final Round NHC and on submitting it requires an identification of a judging location, but there is no field for that information. I would rant about this software but I've been beat down by it too much.

I wonder if it was the same green beer I heard about at the Olde Hickory/Howard Pro-Am on 3/19. A couple of friends were judging it and if I recall correctly it was a Stout. It spewed all over the hand of the judge upon opening and was tough to scrub it off. They thought someone added green dye to make a "St Pat's Day Stout". They did not describe the character just the appearance of the gusher.

I just saw the CON tee shirt this morning. I will most likely pass on this design and will be the first that I do not purchase. :(

Are different emails are sent for different site? I haven't received an email for Philly.

Jim/Cytorunner,

The e-mail I received said registration notices are being sent staggered. I assume to ease any strain on the servers. That may not be the case when conference registration opens. I'll forward you the e-mail I received.

I received NHC confirmation last night for the Nashville site. When I filled out entry information it stated entry shipment window ends March 11th, but on the main info site (Competitions->NHC->Competition Information) March 9th is listed as the deadline for receiving entries. So which is it? Is March 11th specific to the Nashville site?

Thanks,
Steve
