All Grain Brewing / Re: crushed grain life
« on: May 31, 2010, 12:54:42 PM »
I'm still using milled grain from a purchase I made close to a year ago.  It has been kept in the freezer.  I keep some in a cabinet in my kitchen (which is hot and humid).  All of it is in individual 3# sealed bags.  I've had no problems with it so far.  I have since purchased a grain mill since I do suspect that whole grain will keep better than crushed grain.

I think this is a neat idea.  I'll be watching for suggestions - I will try it also.

Yes as a matter a fact the plan is to use batata blanca.  I've heard of nisperos but i'm not familiar with them.  Regarding the brew... I would experiment with 25% batata on the first try then maybe up to 40%.  Should I be able to lauter if I add rice hulls at 40%?

Why would you say "Even with an Amber I brew with lots of 6-row."  Is 6-row more likely to casue a stuck sparge?

What I want to know is what is the maximum proportion of starchy adjucts I can use if my base malt is Pale 6-Row.

On the first page of the water reports someone included what seems like a JPEG in the middle of the Text.  How's that done?

All Grain Brewing / Using Starchy Roots
« on: April 27, 2010, 09:37:30 AM »
Hello Folks!

I plan on doing a mash with some local starchy roots (similar to potato, yucca or yam).  What proportion Starchy root to malt (6Row or 2Row) can I use?

I'd appreciate any advice you can offer me.

Thanks!

Ingredients / Anyone brewed Papazian's Propensity Pilsner?

Has anyone brewed Charlie Papazian's Propensity Pilsner?  I'm interested in knowing how the honey changes (if at all) the final flavor of the brew.

Thanks

I just measured 4 credit cards and they vary between 0.0295 and 0.0315.  What setting have you found to be best for pale malts?
