The Pub / Name My Brewpub - What's Next?
« on: April 12, 2010, 02:19:03 AM »
The pub is named and now I have to get my conditional use permit from Wabasha County. If that happens, construction begins and hopefully, beer will flow in the spring of 2011.

Follow the progress at Facebook and Twitter. Search for "Reads Landing Brewing Co" on Facebook and rlbrewingco on Twitter.

Grand opening announcements will be made via both. Thanks for all the help!

Ingredients / Maple Syrup and Choke Cherries
« on: March 01, 2010, 07:38:50 PM »
I have been given a quart of home made natural maple syrup and 2-3 pounds of choke cherries with the direction to make beer.  I am looking for ideas on what to do with these (to be used separately).  Any ideas?  I was thinking of priming an amber ale with the syrup and maybe a cherry wheat with the choke cherries?  The cherries are pretty tart.  Should I use a higher malt recipe to balance the tartness?

Thanks for any ideas.

The Pub / Name My Brewpub FINAL
« on: February 08, 2010, 09:59:14 PM »
OK, after much deliberation, I have decided to name the brewpub, "Reads Landing Brewing Co.".  I know it is a little long, but it can be abbreviated and I should be able to come up with a cool logo to market it.

To update the project, I am currently working with the railroad and township for parking rights.  It would be tough to open a business with no parking and I want to use my ajoining lot for outdoor seating and firepit.  If I can get the parking situation sorted out, it is full steam ahead.

Watch for a website, facebook page, and twitter to get the latest information on the RLBC.  I hope to get something up by April 1 so I can keep people up to date with the progress of the buildout and opening information.  Once open, I am going to offer spur of the moment specials on Twitter.  Something like "next 10 people who come in and give the secret code AHA gets a free beer" or something like that.

Thanks for all the help.  If you want to be added to an email list for updates, please forward your address.

The Pub / Name My Pub - Finals
« on: January 13, 2010, 08:15:28 PM »
I appreciate all input into the naming of my brewpub and have narrowed it down to three.  The choices are "The Landing", "Reads Landing Brewing Co.", and "Pepin Brewery".  Please post a reply and let me know which one you like best.

Also, once I determine the name, I will be setting up a facebook and twitter page to allow potential customers a chance to follow the progress and grand opening of the pub.  If you would like to be included on as friends or followers, please send me a PM with your email address and I will add your name to my list.  Once opened, I plan to offer spur of the moment deals on food and beer using twitter.

Thanks to everyone that submitted ideas.

OK, I have decided that home brewing is just not enough.  I am in the process of renovating an 1860s building along the Mississippi River in Minnesota and converting it to a brewpub.  I hope to be open by the spring of 2011.  First order of business is a name.  I am looking for ideas.  Reply to this post and give me your best shot.  If I use it, the beers on me (after I open of course).

Beer Travel / Small Town Brewpubs
« on: December 03, 2009, 07:54:12 PM »
I am in the process of planning a new brewpub business in a small town in Minnesota.  The town has a population of about 200 with a lot of seasonal traffic and is on the Mississippi River.  I am looking for other brewpubs in small towns away from large metropolitan areas.  If you know of a nice brewpub, list the name and what you like about the place.  I would like to get a list of other businesses together and contact them to see how manage in a small market.

If you know of a cool brew-on-premise place, list them and give them a little free pub!
