Beer Travel / Trip To Belgium
« on: November 02, 2011, 01:15:53 PM »
Had our 3rd annual Tennessee Cigar and Brew Fest this past Saturday and had about 1500 attend . . That is very encouraging for the event's future! Anyway, I took a flight of 8 different Belgians that were received with much praise and compliment which always feels good. One of the brewers form the Memphis club mentioned a beer festival in Antwerp that happens in June . . I believe the Beer Passion Festival. I suggested to my wife that that might be a good vacation next year . . she can shop for diamonds, while I shop for beer! (sounds equitable to me  :D ) She said sounds good to her!  ;D

So, has anyone been to this fest? What are the language barriers to contend with in that area? Any info would be appreciated.

As a footnote, another guy from the Bluff City Brewers club brought a bottle of Westvleteren 12 to the Brew Fest which we shared . . . Simply sublime.

Don't suppose anyone knows a ringer recipe for this??

Ingredients / Why Does Carapils Get a Bad Rap?
« on: October 07, 2011, 05:46:40 PM »
Just curious why I've seen a number of folks include it in their recipes only to be advised to drop it. I don't use it that much, but now I'm wondering why so much advice against its use. In its typical percentages, how much can it hurt a recipe?

If you had to decide upon one commercial beer to savor whilst watching the incoming mushroom cloud, what would you choose?

For me . . it would have to be La Fin du Monde . . .

Looking to source some sample glasses (around 1000) for our 3rd annual Cigar and Brewfest. Something in the 5 to 7 oz. range, printable, with souvenir potential and a definite cut above crackable plastic.

Oh . . and affordable!   :D

Ideas please . . .

Commercial Beer Reviews / Innis & Gunn Scottish Beer
« on: July 30, 2011, 07:28:48 PM »
I will make this short and sweet . . (pun intended)

While picking up several Belgian selections at Midtown in Nashville, The friendly clerk talked me into trying this beer. I was and and continue to be suspicious of any beer in a clear bottle. No worries . . there is so little hop anything in this beer that skunking is not an issue.

I later went to the website and found this quote:

"Using oak to age beer is unheard of. But, the flavours imparted by the oak barrels (previously used to mature bourbon) lend an incredible depth of taste. Think vanilla, toffee and orange aromas, with a malty,
lightly oaked palate; soothing and warm in the finish.
"

Really?? Using oak is unheard of?   ???  . . .

Another strike.

The first sip will leave you searching out water, coffee, tea, weed killer . . anything to rinse your mouth. This beer is so cloyingly sweet it burns. Even the wife, who loves sweet drinks, couldn't handle it.

Strike three.

Unless you are looking for a new syrup for your pancakes and waffles, avoid this waste of money and abismal excuse for anything Scottish . . .  :(

After 2 days of not knowing anything, the Pentagon has concluded the "Mystery Missile" was in fact an airplane leaving a contrail...case closed.

I know jetliner contrails, and that ain't one!

So . .  what do you think?
