And then made a new thread about it.  Oh well, it was getting stuffy anyways.  :)

Kegging and Bottling / Unlabelled Kegs
« on: July 11, 2012, 05:57:21 PM »
Are a pain.  I need to get the darn brewer to be more organized.  I have 4 kegs sitting here full of beer that isn't labelled.  So, here I am tasting them and wondering what style it fits.  Geez what a mess...

Maybe its a good thing, I can call it what it tastes like and not worry about what it was meant to be.  Oh well, just a rant for today.  I know that one is a solera sour that was aged, and its pretty good.  One I am pretty sure is my Swiller Lite, as it has very little body, fizzy and yellow.

The other two are red.  I make lots of variations of red beers, so thats an issue.

This is my second favorite beer, with Surly Furious edging it out by a very close margin.

I brewed this up last Saturday, but instead of using an ale yeast I have it in the fridge with 830 lager yeast.  I just racked 15 gallons out, so I dumped 2 cakes and split one amongst the three fermenters.
I used the NB recipe, and scaled it to 12 gallons for my batch.  When its all done and carbed up I will add a picture of the beer in a glass also.

12 gallon batch
OG 1.075

22 lb Pale Malt
2 lb C-60
2 lb C-40

Mash at 155 for 60 min

2 oz Northern Brewer 60 min
2 oz Columbus 60 min
1 oz Columbus 15 min
1/4 oz Northern Brewer 15 min
2 oz Cascade Flame out

I did a hop stand for 30 min, then through the chiller to the fermenter.

Dry Hop
1 oz Cascade 7 days
1 oz Columbus 7 days

General Homebrew Discussion / My Mini Brew model

I am making a little brew system for a shelf in my mancave.  I ended up purchasing a box full of old brass calorimeters at an auction last week and am working on making it look cool as a display.
Here is what I have so far, I want to make a little auger to bring in the grain and find a toy bin for the malt as well.
From the picture below, from the right to the left I have the
Mash Tun
Boil kettle
then the rest are just extra's.
On the far left is what I will call a still.  (Not sure if it shows up too well, crappy cell phone picture.)
Anyone have any ideas of other stuff to add?  I was thinking of a mini catwalk, but not sure what to make it out of.  I'm not too good at art. :(  I'm going to dig out the good camera, I can't get a decent picture with the phone I guess.

This is tied with Surly Furious as my favorite beer.  Wow is it a malty, rich, hop bomb!  I highly recommend trying it if you ever have the chance.

My Dad and a friend butchered 5 pigs a couple weeks ago, and I mentioned to cut out the bellies and I will cure and smoke them.

I rubbed them with sea salt and maple sugar a couple weeks ago.  Smoked them yesterday.  Turned out quite tasty!  The belly pictured is 8lb.
Here are some pictures for proof
