The Pub / volume control for multiple speakers
« on: July 03, 2014, 01:44:25 PM »
I'm looking for an affordable way to control volume for 4 sets of speakers:  living room, garage, back yard and front porch.  I currently am using a passive device that lets me takes the signal from my Denon receiver and splits it, but if I don't keep everything exactly balanced it  shuts down the receiver.   Any of you audio experts(Denny for instance) have any suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

Commercial Beer Reviews / My first gruet
« on: June 17, 2014, 08:28:15 PM »
On our trip to visit family in France a sister in law gave me a 12 pack of assorted beers from a brewery in Sancerre: Brasserie Sancerroise.  One of the beers in there was a gruet, Sanceerroise au Gruyt.  The back label says it's made with 15 aromatic herbs. It's not bad, but the sweetness would keep me from drinking a lot of them.  It is better slightly warm, once it's room temp it's a little cloying but not undrinkable at all.
This brewery's wheat is really very good, much more like a German hefeweizen than a Belgian wit.

The Pub / Blood Moon 2014

I took these pictures a couple of weeks ago in my driveway with a Pentax K-r, 300mm lens on a tripod.  Not too shabby for a rank amateur if I do say so myself.

Hop Growing / 2014 hop gardens
« on: May 01, 2014, 06:44:28 PM »
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say I probably will have the first hop crop this year.  My Cascades are only 6' tall but I already have lots of burrs growing.

The rest of the garden is coming along slowly but surely.  I have 3 new Fuggles, one neomexicanus, one Amilla, and 3 Centennials growing along with 12 mature and 6 new Cascades.

Going Pro / Six pack can holders
« on: February 16, 2014, 07:43:05 PM »
I'm not a pro brewer, I'm just a lowly homebrewer and beer consumer.  I love the can revolution, but I truly hate these six pack holders that cover the top of each can.  I know the plastic rings I grew up with were an environmental disaster, but there has to be a better way than these can  holders.  There's no way to get a can loose without shaking it up and the volume of plastic required upsets my environmental sensibilities.  End of rant, what options are available to the pro beer canner?

Ingredients / Rocky Mountain wild hops
« on: January 16, 2014, 03:46:47 PM »
I found this map on another brewing forum, it lists sites where wild hops have been found in the Rockies.  At least one of these is related to the Multihead and Neomexicanus varieties now commercially available.  One of these sites is 2 hours from me, I may visit next weekend and see if I can dig up some rhizomes.

General Homebrew Discussion / Hop varieties for a warmer world
« on: July 29, 2013, 07:12:21 PM »
Without getting political I wonder if hop cultivators are developing any hop varieties that will still produce  tasty cones as the world warms up a few degrees.  It seems that most hops are best suited in very moist areas with moderate temps, but I wonder how well these plants will do if the climate gets a little drier and warmer.

The Pub / Best tablet not made by Apple
« on: April 27, 2013, 05:42:00 PM »
All you tech savvy people, I need your help.  I need (want) a tablet but I really do not like Apple.  I've never owned an Apple product and don't want to start now, so what's my best choice.  I need it mostly for office work and wasting time on beer forums, I play no games so that doesn't matter to me.

Equipment and Software / Brix Hydrometer
« on: March 15, 2013, 03:54:38 PM »
A couple of years ago a pro brewer gave me a brix FG hydrometer that has sat on a shelf until yesterday.  I didn't even it read in brix until I read the scale and it said 2.8.  I'm guessing that is around 1.011 specific gravity, am I correct?

General Homebrew Discussion / Hops are coming up
« on: March 12, 2013, 10:34:35 AM »
My Cascades have started poking out of the ground.  It's kind of late for us down here, and I was worried they wouldn't even come back at all because of their poor health last year.  3 years of sever drought has taken it's toll, I even have cacti dying.  But they are back and looking good.

Questions about the forum? / staying logged in
« on: February 19, 2013, 10:00:56 AM »
For some reason I have to log in each time I visit the site from my living room computer.  I've gone to the settings and slicked the stay logged in box but that hasn't helped at all.  Any suggestions?  I don't mind spending my work time on the site but  it would be nice to be able to waste time here and drink beer at the same time.

Great article about a new brewery in Baldwin County.  It also talks about some upstart Yellowhammer brewery helping the guy out
