The Pub / Getting close to freedom...
« on: June 18, 2012, 04:51:16 PM »
So for those of you who remember me, the divorce finally went through last month, I found a buyer for the house, and should be moving into a new apartment by the end of the month. Yay me!

I have some stuff I need to get rid of, brewing and otherwise. I put up a classified here and I will probably post on another forum as well.

Just dropping in to say hi... I haven't been on in a while and I wanted to see who was still around.

Classifieds / For Sale: 1/2bbl kegs, corny kegs, carboys, and more
« on: June 18, 2012, 04:47:20 PM »
Hi all,

Haven't been on the site for a while, but the time has FINALLY come for me to move. I have 2 uncut 1/2bbl kegs (also have one cut one I may get rid of), 2 corny kegs, 2 5g glass carboys, an open head SS drum (actually about a 1/2 drum in size, not sure how big exactly) and probably some other stuff to get rid of as I downsize operations to apartment size.

I also have a beer fridge that has been drilled for a cO2 line and 2 taps, and a 2 bay SS commercial sink with drainboard if those don't go to the new buyers. If anyone definitely wants those, let me know ASAP.

Call or text me (Nate) at 908-938-4342
I'm in Bridgewater, NJ (Bradley Gardens). Local only, and I need to move this stuff quick.

All Things Food / Scrapple
« on: February 11, 2012, 02:09:26 AM »
So I got my pork ribs, got some hocks, got white and yellow corn meal. Prepared to make me some scrapple. Who has tips for me?

My understanding is you boil, remove meat and bone from the stock, pick the meat, puree, and return it to the stock. Boil with cornmeal and spices, cool, and pack in cake pan. Refrigerate or freeze.

Am I missing anything?

The Pub / #58 - Not too shabby!
« on: January 27, 2012, 02:47:19 PM »

My buddy Brian (Stillwater Artisinal Ales) made the list this year at #58 - Not too shabby at all! I think this is his second pro year.

The Pub / Talk me into brewing Saturday morning
« on: December 16, 2011, 05:32:29 AM »
So... I find myself unexpectedly without kids on Saturday until 2. Here's the rundown:

- I have all the ingredients I need
- I have the time
- It may be quite some time again until I'm able to brew

- Girlfriend also has no kids on Saturday, and it will probably be her last free weekend for quite some time. I can't brew at her place, and she can't come over here.
- All my equipment has been unused for a long time now. I have no idea what condition it's in. Burners are probably rusted to s*** by now.
- I have no propane
- I have a ton of other things to do

What to do, what to do...

The Pub / I made cider!

Well, I left a half gallon sit until it went hard.

Hey, it's the closest I've come to brewing in a long time.

The Pub / Why am I still here?

I haven't brewed a batch in over a year. At least. My stockpile is all but gone.  :'(

All Things Food / Gnocci?
« on: February 14, 2011, 02:43:32 PM »
Anyone have a good gnocci recipe? I've made it once, but it was a long time ago.

The Pub / People local to NJ - Who wants my hop plants?
« on: January 23, 2011, 05:52:15 AM »
It just occurred to me that with my house on the market (and everything else going on) I should start looking around to see if anyone wants a hop plant or two or six. Yes, the whole thing. They'll need to be dug up once we thaw out, the chances that the new owners will want them are slim.

I have a cascade, a saaz, a fuggle, a willamette, and two others I can't quite remember. One might be hallertau, the other is some high-alpha hybrid.

Let me know. I'll be asking around local as well.

The Pub / What gives?
« on: January 22, 2011, 05:10:17 AM »
Do you people have lives or something?

Can't a guy come home from the brewpub and find some online camaraderie anymore?

The Pub / So I got myself an e-cigarette
« on: January 17, 2011, 06:46:45 AM »
Because I figured, you know, what the hell.

It's kind of cool. And I haven't smoked a real cigarette since Thursday morning.

Now I find myself mixing up different juice flavors. I fear I may be turning this into a hobby.

All Things Food / Hot Wings?
« on: December 26, 2010, 06:57:56 PM »
I know we had a discussion going about hot wings a little while back, but now I can't find the recipes!

Someone here had a deep-fry method they recommended that involved lightly coating in corn starch and deep frying, but that's all I remember. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I usually bake wings, but I wanted to try it this way for once.

All Grain Brewing / Electric Apartment Brewers... I have questions for you.
« on: December 23, 2010, 05:30:53 PM »
As some of you may or may not know, I am going through some changes and will likely have to move into an apartment for a year or so. I haven't had a chance to brew recently, but I was wondering how feasible electric systems are for apartments.

If I'm thinking about this right, any apartment with an electric stove or dryer is going to have a 220v outlet. I used to have a 2000w 110v AC HLT, which took quite a while to heat up. I am working on a 110v electric RIMS MLT, which I think would be suited perfectly once I get it together. Question is, how well do 220v boil kettles work? Could one be used on a dryer or stove circuit? Are there 5 gal and 10 gal versions?

Anyone who brews AG on an electric system in their apartment, stop on by and let me know what you think is a good setup.

The Pub / Thanksgiving Accident
« on: December 07, 2010, 03:56:16 PM »
So I got rear-ended on Thanksgiving morning. Getting close to a settlement with the ins. co. My Jeep is totaled out - it's really not so bad except for that damn unibody being crinkly now. But me and my girls were OK, so the old Cherokee did its job.

Hopefully I'll be able to replace it this week. After that accident, I'm an even bigger fan of the platform so I'm looking at getting pretty much the exact same thing. The guy that hit me must've been going about 50 (I was stopped) and I don't think he even tapped the brakes. His front end was completely gone. I wish I had taken pictures.

Yup, that's what a totaled Cherokee looks like.

The Pub / Looking at Windows 7 phones
« on: November 29, 2010, 06:07:11 AM »
Anyone have one yet? I'm looking at the LG Quantum or Samsung Focus, but I'm not really sure I like either of them.

So... any windows phone technorati here?
