Kegging and Bottling / Sanitizing a CP Bottle FIller
« on: March 27, 2012, 05:33:31 PM »
I recently bottled a few beers for a local competition using my counter pressure bottle filler.  I had not problem filling the bottles and getting good carbonation.  However my issue was with infected beer in the bottles.  Is it possible to pick up something from the filler? After filling each bottle I placed the filler in s bucket of Star San.   But what if I had some left over residue inside the beer in line from a previous filling several months ago that is now infected?  How do you thoroughly clean a CP filler?

All Grain Brewing / Diacetyl rest
« on: March 10, 2012, 05:57:18 PM »
I have brewed a Bohemian Pilsner and have moved the carboy from my fridge into the house for my diacetyl rest.  I did this on Thursday thinking I would get the beer into the secondary by Sunday.  Now it appears I will not be able to rack into a secondary until Wednesday or Thursday.  Will a week long diacetyl rest be a problem?

Kegging and Bottling / Filtering finished beer
« on: March 05, 2012, 01:54:30 PM »
I am in the process of putting together a filtration system using a simple 5 micron cartridge filter and a 0.5 micron cartridge filter in 2 separate filter housings.  The keg of unfiltered beer will be connected to the filtration system and the discharge of the filter will be connected to a clean and sanitized corny keg.  I will use CO2 to push the beer from the first keg through the filter and into the clean and sanitized keg.  My questions are these:

Do I have to fill the sanitized keg with CO2 before I begin to filter the beer to prevent oxidation?

Will I use a lot of CO2 to push the beer?  I currently have a 5 lb CO2 cylinder and can get about 5 or 6 kegs out if it.
