Ingredients / Brewing with quassia bark (Picrasma excelsa)
« on: March 19, 2016, 02:43:39 AM »
So i'm planning on brewing a double IPA for a local whacky brewing competition.  I want to use quassia bark for the bittering.  I've made a tea with it and it will get the job done... maybe too much lol.  I'm wondering if anyone has ever used quassia and, if so, how much do you think I should use for a 6 gallon batch of 1.090 Double IPA.  I am planning on the vast majority of the bitterness to come from the quassia vs the hops.

Events / NHC Seminar Schedule

Since the NHC seminar schedule has been posted I was wondering if anyone has created a spreadsheet on the seminars yet?  Just curious before I spend the time to create one myself.  Thanks.

Ingredients / Enriched Corn Meal
« on: May 06, 2014, 01:33:48 AM »
So... Would there be any negative effects to doing a cereal mash with enriched corn meal vs just 'normal' cornmeal?

Came across this and figured I would share it (guilty I bought 2 and I want him to get funded so I get the fermenters instead of my money back.)  It seems pretty decent... pretty simple... Stainless steel vessel that seals up airtight and has hole for an airlock.  A stainless steel bucket basically for $125. (as of posting this there is still 1 $105 on left.)

Talk about a crazy law.  This law is actually a hindrance to safety if enforced...

General Homebrew Discussion / AHA Financials
« on: January 21, 2014, 06:06:46 PM »
Hey All,

Well I've been getting alot of negative comments around the NHC and the AHA in general from many local people I've spoken with.  They often say things like "The AHA's just being greedy and making a money grab by removing the social packages."  I try and point out some of the things the AHA does with the money it raises but you know... I can't say I actually know that much.  I looked around on the website and couldn't really find much info about it either.  I know the money is being put to good use but is there anywhere I can reference to let people know where?  Thanks.

General Homebrew Discussion / BJCP Written Exam
« on: January 13, 2014, 03:11:06 AM »
So... I've taken the BJCP Tasting Exam and the BJCP Mead Exam, but I've yet to actually take the BJCP Written Exam.  Looking for advice, tips, and insight into studying for it.  I'm taking it on Saturday the 17th.

I'm currently basing most of my 'studying' off of the BJCP_Study_guide.pdf and the last few slides of the mastering the BJCP slideshow off of the BJCP site itself.  Let me know if you have any other sources you think I should be checking out.  Thanks.

I got this in the mail today.  Took the exam on a whim while at the NHC.
