All Grain Brewing / Different color from keg to carboy
« on: March 16, 2013, 04:34:40 AM »
Alright folks I have never seen this happen before.  My brewbuddy and I were making a 22 gallon batch of simple beer. 55lbs marris otter, 3lbs cara pils, 1 lbs of british malt with 5 oz simcoe and 3 oz of cascade.  We transferred to the kegs and the beer was light in color in which we expected.  Then transferred the last little bit of the grain mash to a carboy and the wort was red, red, and red.  Why did this happen and is this common?

Extract/Partial Mash Brewing / scott wee heavy to keg?
« on: April 14, 2012, 02:35:08 PM »
I brewed a Scott Wee Heavy from Northern Brewer. It recommends that bottle conditioning 4+months or longer. It is currently in the secondary carboy, would keg conditioning achieve the same as bottle conditioning?

Cheers,

General Homebrew Discussion / looks a little dusty
« on: April 11, 2012, 08:17:39 PM »
Finished an extract kit for the scott wee heavy and getting ready to go to the secondary on it, but the primary looks a little dusty on the inside. Any suggestions or hints on what to do to correct the problem, or is that normal?

« on: April 11, 2012, 08:14:19 PM »
Hello everyone....looking at starting a homebrew club down here in Supply, North Carolina.  I love the feedback on AHA for the most part, but I would love to have to some one on one interaction and have a nice club going.  Any suggestions or recommendations?

Pimp My System / Still in the process of building the system
« on: March 31, 2012, 12:00:50 PM »
I am still in the beginning phase of building this system on wheels.  I will have the cooker on top and will eventually feed to the bottom as a three tier system.  I will have enough room for grains and you will notice the kegerator is on the right for the keg after I am ready to put in the fridge.  Like I said, still have a long way to go but as of right now at least I have a storage stand on wheels. lol

Beer Recipes / critique my first all grain
« on: March 27, 2012, 08:34:27 AM »
Ok. Im all about feedback here.  I was going for a cherry looking ale (all grain) and this is receipe that I came up with, so far fermenting as planned in a keg.

1. 10lbs english marris otter
2. 1lb Breiss Caramel 40l
3. 2lb Breiss Caramel 60l
4. 1/2 lb fawcett pale chocolate
5. 1/2 lb cherrywood breiss smoked malt

yeast safale 04

Hops:  .5 Newport at 60 mins
Flavoring .5 Santiam 45 mins
Finishing .5 Glacier 15 mins

I noticed once I pitched the glacier I started getting real nervous about the hop break, but it happened. Original gravity 1.058
