Pimp My System / Pimped out grain mill
« on: March 22, 2011, 09:49:29 AM »
I was given an old garage door opener. Had some scrape wood and a switch. Bought some wheels. Haha... it took two electricians to figure out how to get it to run just one way, though. I like it!

Beer Recipes / Blanche de Bruxelles... I'd like to brew a clone
« on: January 17, 2011, 01:00:18 PM »
Thee most goodest Belgian Wit I've had in recent memory is Blanche de Bruxelles. It's just so smooth and mellow. Lucky they have it on tap at Reuben's in Boulder, CO!

Does anybody out there have a clone recipe for it? Any ideas on the grain bill? Spices? Yeast? Temps?

Equipment and Software / Soda Stream to carbonate beer???
« on: December 15, 2010, 04:26:58 PM »
Looks like I'm getting a Sodo Stream machine for Christmas. Google it.. they're cool!  I'll use it as intended, but It gave me an idea. I want to make some small batches of ice beer from what I have brewed and kegged. I'll probably pull off 1.5L into  a 2L bottle and freeze it. Once I extract the good stuff, I'm thinking I'd give the Soda Stream a shot at infizzerating it. I talked to a sales person about the machines, and she said you can only carbonate plain water with the machine, otherwise it just turns to foam. I'm wondering if I leave it hooked up fpr a few days, the C02 might desolve into the beer. Anybody here had any luck with this?

Anybody have any other good ideas about how to carbonate a 1-2 L. amount of beer?

General Homebrew Discussion / Why is dry-hopping called dry-hopping?

The hops aren't dry!

Just a question I've had on my mind...

Ingredients / I'm thinking about a tobacco RIS... any thoughts?
« on: August 03, 2010, 08:10:40 AM »
I was thinking about putting a cigar in the secondary of a RIS, or some other 10-14% ABV ale. I don't want a nicotine beer, just the flavor from some mellow tobacco. good idea? Bad idea? Any thoughts on this?

The Pub / This lady says hops were added to beer because...
« on: June 29, 2010, 12:31:27 PM »
At about 1:48 or so in this video, the fine lady says during the women's temperence movement, breweries added hops to beer so that the bitterness would keep people from drinking so much. I've never heard that. Is this true?

Whatcha think?

As far as the main subject of the video... sounds legit to me. Women do lots of stuff better than guys do! I've tought several people to shoot firearms. The women are usually MUCH easier to teach, and usually do much better than most guys.

Yeast and Fermentation / Throw caution to the wind!
« on: May 07, 2010, 08:28:19 AM »
I've decided to let nature take it's course on a batch of beer. What I thought I'd do is make a starter, cover it with a screen to keep the pinecones and raccoons out of it, let it sit outside for... (how long?) then pitch it into wort when the starter is bubbling away.

Any tips for me?

Pimp My System / I pimped my carboys
« on: May 01, 2010, 02:38:09 PM »
I have six 6.5 gallon carboys. I was tired of not knowing just how much was in there, so I spent my Saturday at the office measuring and marking a carboy quart by quart, then cutting vinyl graphic material to make the volume markings. Whatcha think?

I like to renew my membership at a rally, but don't see any listed for the CO front range for this year. What's the deal?

Equipment and Software / Which counterflow chiller should I get?
« on: April 26, 2010, 03:36:02 PM »
I'm upgrading my brewery this year. One of the two "big" things on the list is a counterflow chiller.  Something easy to clean & sanitize is at the top of my feature list. Which is the best to get?

Also, I've heard you need high temp hoses to handle the hot wort... what do I want to look for?
