Proud to say that my Texas A&M Aggies are looking for a malt-grade barley strain that will grow in Texas.  In a state rich in brewing history, it would be great to finally be able to brew a TRULY local beer. :)

Hi guys, I'm going to be brewing a 1 gal. batch of Dead Ringer IPA (1.064) this weekend.  Anyone think I need a yeast starter, or can I pitch it dry?

General Homebrew Discussion / Sanitizer in the Fermenter

Ok, so I was racking to my secondary for the first time, and I primed my racking cane with sanitizer.  When I moved it into the fermenter, the siphon broke, releasing about a racking cane worth of sanitizer into the brew.  I went ahead and racked it anyhow, but has anyone had any issues with this? :-\

Beer Recipes / Recipe for extract+grain Belgian Golden

I'm looking to see if anyone has a good recipe for an extract-based Belgian Golden Ale - something similar to Duvel.  I've become obsessed with these, and figure I need to quit wasting money and brew my own. 

I'd like to stay away from mash recipes, since brewing is something I have about 6 hours a month to do.

Any help would be great.  Thanks guys!

Beer Travel / San Diego Mission Beach Area

Ok brewmen, I need to find a good brewery in the Mission Beach area of San Diego.  I'm going this weekend for a getaway, and I am in the need of some great (not just ok) beer.  I don't mind driving, but somewhere in walking distance of the hotel (like I said, Mission Beach) would be preferred!

Alright, I just brewed my first batch.  It's a Red Ale.  The original gravity on the kit called for between 1.048-1.052.  I measured it at 1.046.  Is this going to kill the batch? :-\

General Homebrew Discussion / Fermentation Temp Control (Texas)

So I live in Texas.  My AC can't usually keep the house below 78, which means that I need some way to artificially cool the closet/box/whatever where I plan on fermenting.  Basically I'm afraid to start my first batch, because I don't want it to get ruined because of the stupid heat down here.  Any hints, suggestions, inventions?
