Equipment and Software / recommendations for measuring alcohol content?

What's better to use?  A refractometer or hydrometer?  Which is easier?

Any good brands you'd like to recommend?

Ingredients / What type of yeast should I get?

What type of brewer's yeast should I get to just have on hand?  Up until now I've just been using the yeast that came with pre-made kits.

Going Pro / realistically, what does it take?

Hey, I'm new to this forum and just got into homebrewing a few months ago.

Before anyone makes the comment: I realize that it's going to take me a few years to figure all this stuff out.  I've been playing the violin for over twenty years so I completely understand/value patience :)

I'm just curious what it would realistically take to eventually start selling your brew.  I'm from San Diego and microbreweries are popping up everywhere.  What does it take to start one of those?  Also, is it possible to not have a storefront?  Maybe just have your beer bottled and sold in stores?

Extract/Partial Mash Brewing / need directions for extract/partial mash

Hi!  I'm brand new to this forum and just got into homebrewing a few months ago.

I started out slow by buying a Mr. Beer kit.  I know it's not "real brewing" but I knew NOTHING about the process.  I've made two batches using their mix and it's helped me to figure out fermenting and bottling.

Just a few days ago I attempted all-grain brewing.  It took me about five hours but I did it  :)  I have no idea how it's going to taste.

I also have the materials to make an extract/partial mash brew.  But I'm not sure how that works?  Do you just make the mash and then combine the liquid with the extract to make your wort?
