 A great driver/owner and an even better man. Hometown hero. I got to attend the event when the governor presented him with the Order of the Palmetto (our state's highest cilivian award).

Thanks for what you did for the sport...

The man that caused me to pick up a guitar and I'm thankful for that.

 Lester, Earl, Bill, Doc. They brought it to us and thankfully inspired many more that will continue their legacy for our enjoyment.

Cotton Owens finally got into the NASCSAR Hall of Fame. He should have went in on the first vote....js.

 He joins Bud Moore and David Pearson from my home town.. Now all we lack is Jack Smith.

 If it were'nt for Spartanburg there wouldn't be a NASCAR. Spartanburg was the Charlotte in the early days. All the teams were here. Bill France was going to build the "Talladega" track here and already had the land set aside but the county council wouldn't allow racin' on Sunday. If racing commences on Sunday then folks might miss church to get an early seat and once the race starts folks might be tempted to drink beer which would lead them to look at a womern's legs...<sigh.>.

Today, someone asked me definition of "stateside". I don't have a clue.

 Do any of the great minds on here know the offical definition?

The Pub / regional Sayings

 I heard a feller the other day who was describing to a crowd of 6 folks how he had to remove a large rock from his garden and he said "I had to mash down like I was climbing the Saluda Grade". The other 5 stared at him while I busted out laughing. Then I realized I was the only one that knew what he meant. The others didn't grow up around here.

 The Saluda grade is legendary around here and anyone that has travelled I-26 between Spartanburg and Asheville knows all about it. Down shifting going up, and then coming down...pray your brakes hold out. The rail line run the Pacolet River and trains had to break apart to get up the grade.

 Then I got to thinking, which is usually bad for the Tubercle, I bet everyone has local sayings that an outsider would have no clue.

let us in on them.
