The Pub / Good(ish) legal news for a change
« on: March 09, 2015, 01:00:01 PM »
I say -ish since both breweries spent mucho $$ for their wins.
Flying Dog wins court case against MI over Raging b**** ban.****-freedom-speech/
Local brewery wins trademark lawsuit against their name.
Although Shorebilly changed their name to Backshore a while ago (because of the lawsuit) and I don't know if they will change it back now.

The Pub / Blue Earl Brewing Company
« on: January 02, 2015, 08:24:14 AM »
Bluesman's been hard at work with construction. I saw the building when it was empty and it felt big enough for an airplane hanger, though I'm sure it won't seem that big when filled with brewing equipment. He also just announced a name change (from Warlock) to Blue Earl Brewing Company.
I really like the new logo too. And I hear rumor that there will be a music stage.

Well, pretzel knots actually. Made with Oktoberfest beer and they are as good as they look.

Don't be confused. After meeting folks at NHC, I realized I'm not fond of introducing myself using an online ID. I'd rather use my real name, so I changed my username today.

All Things Food / Beer grilled cheese
« on: June 05, 2014, 08:33:12 AM »
I tried this recipe the other day and it was tasty!

It's a bit of a cross between grilled cheese and French toast. There is plenty of beer in the egg mix though and that keeps it from being too eggy, so you wouldn't think 'hey, this is French toast with cheese'. The brown ale flavor comes through well. And the extra liquid steams the cheese to help make it extra melty.

Homebrew Competitions / Final Round Cider Recipes
« on: May 06, 2014, 08:00:13 AM »
I'm not exactly sure how to enter a cider recipe on the final round site. The recipe entry form is set up for beer and I have some procedures and ingredients that don't fit (juice by the gallon, acid adjustments). Should I just type all that info into the brewers specifics section? How's that normally handled?

Interesting Popular Science article on Maillard and caramelization reactions in beer.

I can load, but I'm getting HTTP 404 errors on almost every menu link off it this morning. Anyone else?

Kegging and Bottling / Priming Sugar Calculator

I just found this priming sugar calculator at Northern Brewer. It gives custom weights and volumes for many different sugars.

There was a young man who loved Pabst
He drank it until he collapsed
He gave up beer
For Lent every year
And on Easter morning, relapsed.

Homebrew Competitions / NHC Lottery Limbo
« on: February 12, 2014, 06:12:45 PM »
I know the plan is to notify entrants not picked in the lottery next week, after selecting some of them to fill unpaid spots. I think this plan is causing a bit of stress by leaving some contestants in limbo. They know emails have gone out, they don't know if they all went out, and they're being left to slooooowly come to the realization that they didn't get in.
I think it would be better/kinder/more humane to let the unlucky ones know for sure what their status is. They can be reminded that they might get another chance if some don't pay. It won't make the news better, but at least they won't be left in agony wondering.

Questions about the forum? / AHA Forum Ticker on
« on: February 11, 2014, 02:28:39 PM »
I was just at the AHA main page and clicked a new forum post from the feed. Then I got a message that it was off limits. Tried again with a second. Topics = "Supplies for 2014 competition sites" and "Problems Logging in to the comp software". I assume these are in admin boards and shouldn't be showing up on the feed. Probably want to fix that.
