In less than two weeks, homebrewers and professional brewers from around the country will converge on Seattle to be a part of the 2012 National Homebrewers Conference.  Though the conference sold out in less than 2 days, there are still ways to be a part of the festivities.
The Washington Homebrewers Association is organizing Pre-Conference Bus Tours running Tuesday and Wednesday, June 19th – 20th, around the Puget Sound.  These bus tours go as far North as Bellingham and all the way down to Olympia.  These tours are open to the public (you don’t have to have a conference pass) so all beer lovers are welcome.  They cost between $40-45, stop at three breweries, and include lunch.  It is a great chance to mingle with brewers from all over the country.  For interestedin wine, there is even a wine and food pairing event right around the corner from the hotel on Friday, June 22nd.  You can find out more about the tours at http://www.ahaconference.org/events/pre-conference-events/
All you have to do is buy a ticket, show up at the conference hotel (the Bellevue Regency Hyatt), and get ready for a great trip.  (For free parking you can park at the Bellevue Square Mall).
Ticket sales will end June 17th so get your tickets ASAP!  We look forward to seeing a ton of homebrewers and beer aficionados very soon!
Cheers,
Mark Emiley

Heading out to the Northwest for the 2012 National Homebrewers Conference?  Come early and enjoy exploring the area with the Pre-Conference events lined up.  You'll get a chance to see the Northwest beer scene in its glory.  There are tour lined up heading North, South, East, and West around the Puget Sound.  You can head up to check out Chuckanut Brewery up in Bellingham, winner of the Small Brewing Company of the Year.  Or head down to Olympia to check out breweries in the South sound like Fish, Harmon, or Airways.  Head West, cross the Sound and check out Elliott Bay or Big Al's.  Or head East to Redhook, Black Raven, and Snoqualmie.  Or head to Pike Brewing for a beer pairing dinner or Rock Bottom for a beer pairing breakfast!  We've got you covered.

While you are on your tours, you'll get to see the beauty of the Northwest.  See the Mountains plummet into the water and sip brews with the majestic Mt. Ranier watching down upon you.

All you have to do is go to http://www.ahaconference.org/events/pre-conference-events/ to find out more and purchase your tickets.  In a couple months you'll be rubbing elbows with your fellow homebrewers and enjoying brewery fresh beers (and some food too).

Cheers,

The Joint Cascade Brewers Cup and Puget Sound Pro-Am is an AHA/BJCP sanctioned competition aimed at providing award winning homebrew recipes to be brewed by Puget Sound breweries with the goal of capturing a medal from the Great American Beer Festival’s Pro-Am Competition.  As many as SIXTEEN breweries will be selecting their favorite homebrew beers from the best of show round to scale up and brew on their systems.  Winning beers of AHA members may be sent on to the GABF for a shot at national glory!  Non-AHA members can still enter the competition and win other awards and prizes and the breweries not submitting to the GABF will not be constrained to picking an AHA member!

WE WANT JUDGES!  Judging will be held on March 10th at McKinstry Corp in Seattle, Washington.  If you are interested in judging, stewarding, or helping with event execution, please register online at the website or contact Mark Emiley at markemiley@earthlink.net.  We’ll have some calibration brews, swag, and we need your recommendations for the brewers!  Judges and helpers also get $1 off each entry!

Check the website for updates on contest details and all of the rules.  To have the best shot of having your beer brewed, you should be an AHA member by the time of the competition, so join today!  Invite your friends to join the AHA and submit beers as well (all beers, ciders, and meads will be judged and ranked regardless of AHA membership).  Good luck!

On behalf of the Cascade Brewers Guild, BEWBC, the Impaling Alers, and WAHA, we are happy to announce the kick-off of the 2012 Joint Cascade Brewers Cup and Puget Sound Pro-Am!  For one year, this is a combination of one of Washington’s longest running and most prestigious competitions with the country's largest GABF Pro-Am qualifying competition with as many over a dozen breweries selecting homebrew recipes to scale up (more breweries still being added!)

This is an AHA/BJCP sanctioned competition aimed at providing excellent feedback and prizes as well as finding award winning homebrew recipes to be brewed by Puget Sound breweries with the goal of capturing a medal from the Great American Beer Festival’s Pro-Am Competition.  The Puget Sound Pro-Am is unique in that it will have MANY breweries looking for their favorite homebrew beers to scale up and brew on their systems.  Winning beers of AHA members may be sent on to the GABF for a shot at national glory!

Start dreaming and brewing up your entries today!  We want you to have plenty of time to brew up that perfect beer!  The brewers are not just looking for stylistically accurate beers, but they will be looking for damn tasty beers.  This is a perfect shot for that hybrid beer you make.  You’ve got plenty of time to brew up entries specifically for one of the slots!

Check the competition website at http://www.wahomebrewers.org/jcbcpspa for the latest details including participating breweries, desired styles, contest rules, and links to online registration.  Entries (three 10-12 oz brown bottles) are due March 3rd with an entry fee of $6 per entry with $1 off per entry for competition judges, stewards, and organizers (several drop-off locations accepting entries beginning in mid-February).  The main judging will be held on March 10th at McKinstry Corp in Seattle (if you are interested in judging, stewarding, or helping with event execution, contact Mark Emiley at markemiley@earthlink.net or register online on the website through the same link that allows you to register beers and volunteer as a judge).  Winners will be selected in the weeks following.  Check the website frequently for updates on participating breweries and contest details as the competition grows.  To have the best shot of having your beer brewed, you need to be an AHA member by the time of the competition, so join today!  Invite your friends to join the AHA and submit beers as well (all beers will be judged and ranked regardless of AHA membership).  Good luck, and may your wildest brewing dreams come true!

The Cascade Brewers Guild, Boeing Employees Wine and Beer Makers Club, and Impaling Alers are proud to announce that for 2012, the Cascade Brewers Cup and Puget Sound Pro-Am will be joining forces for one incredible competition.  For what we will expect to be the largest Washington homebrewing competition ever, we will be bringing the best aspects of our competitions into one event.  It will combine the great judging and prizes of the Cascade Brewers Cup, one of Washington’s longest running competitions, with the excitement the of Puget Sound Pro-Am giving you the chance to compete to have your beer brewed by one of more than a dozen local breweries and sent on to the Great American Beer Festival’s Pro-Am Competition.  We’ll be mustering the best from our rapidly growing BJCP certified judge pool (now in the top 10 largest state pools in the country) to bring you the high-quality feedback you expect from both competitions.  This will also be a Washington Homebrewer of the Year qualifying event where you can rack up some big points.  With the combined effort of three clubs, this promises to be one of the best run competitions that you’ll ever enter.
The main competition is currently planned for Saturday, March 10th with entries being due Saturday, March 3rd at a wide variety of drop locations.  The competition will be open to beers requiring 3 bottles per entry as well as meads and ciders (only 2 bottles needed).   Each entry will be $6 with a limit of 12 entries per person.  Judges and volunteers, you’ll get $1 off each entry for helping out!  We will be conducting an early round of judging on Friday, March 9th to help get through all of the entries so come out for some extra judging points!
We will be posting more information on the competition over the holiday at the central website here:

There is still just enough time left to brew up one more batch and get all of your entries ready for the 2010 Puget Sound Pro-Am Competition.  This competition boasts 14+ breweries who will pick homebrewing recipes to scale up and brew on their systems, most of which will be sending their qualified brews on to the GABF Pro-Am Competition.  Our competition brought home the gold medal in the 2008 GABF Pro-Am competition and we hope for a repeat.  Winning beers of AHA members may be sent on to the GABF for a shot at national glory!  Not from the Puget Sound area?  Out of state entries are more than welcome (the 2008 GABF gold medal winning entry was from a Colorado brewer).  Non-AHA members can still enter the competition and win other awards and prizes (the Powerhouse Brewery will not be submitting to the GABF and will be free to pick any entry).

Start dreaming and brewing up your entries today!  The entry deadline is April 20th so there is plenty of time to brew some fresh batches just for the competition.  The brewers are not just looking for stylistically accurate beers, but they will be looking for damn tasty beers.  This is a perfect shot for that hybrid beer you make.  You’ve got plenty of time to brew up entries specifically for one of the slots!

Check the competition website at http://www.bewbc.org/pro-am for the latest details including participating breweries, desired styles, contest rules, and links to register online.  Entries (three 10-12 oz brown bottles) are due April 20th with an entry fee of $6 per beer submitted online (several drop-off locations accepting entries beginning in early April).  Judging will be held on April 24th at Larry’s Brewing Supply in Kent (if you are interested in judging, stewarding, or helping with event execution, contact Mark Emiley at markemiley@earthlink.net or register online – receive a $1 discount on your entries).  Winners will be selected in the weeks following.

Check the website frequently for updates on participating breweries and contest details as the competition grows.  As a reminder, this event is run with all proceeds going to benefit the Washington Homebrewers Association (so your entry fees will come back to help you)!

Invite your friends to join the AHA and submit beers as well (all beers will be judged and ranked regardless of AHA membership).  Good luck, and may your wildest brewing dreams come true!
