Maybe it's time for us to stop kidding ourselves and grow hops hydro indoors.  Hint: halide for vegetative and HPS for flowering  ;D

There's more than a few folks trying it and are finding quite a few issues.  I've never had anyone get back to me about vernalization so I know that's a big one.  I guess they'll keep trying as long as it's other peoples $$ they're using, haha.  http://www.coloradoan.com/story/life/food/2016/07/01/csu-professor-pioneers-fast-growing-hops/86599646/
That is a great article.

Let's talk 30 minute boil ... using hop extract, the need to boil for bittering is gone.

I've done 20 min. boils.  You just increase your bittering hops by 50%.
Agreed.  That is my experience as well.

Amen.  I would say there are learner's and knower's no matter what your background or training.  It is better to stay a learner.  Many big advancements in science came from mistakes.  I am a pharmacist and we found great medications that way.

Yes, hop flavor came out just right.  It has a nice lingering after taste.  I lucked out  :)

I am currently fermenting a farmhouse with Juniper but I added a small addition of hops as well. Am going to double the juniper and nix hops next farmhouse.

Yeast and Fermentation / Re: Yeast Strain and Beer Color
« on: April 23, 2017, 03:29:06 AM »
I made an IPA recently and split the batch into two fermenters, one with US-05 and one with Danstar London ESB. The color difference is startling. On the left is the ESB yeast. On the right, the US-05. How? And, fwiw, the US-05 (darker one) tastes hoppier and fresher, but both are fine beers.

All Grain Brewing / Is a 90 Min boil needed?

I do routinely do a 5L 20 minute mash, 20 minute boil with no problems.

Just have to compensate for about a 60 % brewhouse efficiency.
