The Pub / Re: Jim Koch has a problem....

In all due respect I wonder if he was planning on going to the bar, have a pint or two of SA and then be able to talk up the beers and brewery. Think about, he is the PR person and face of SA and probably takes whatever opportunity to talk up his products, granted he could have handled the situation differently. He probably also drinks BL or other SA beers while out as part of quality control. I am sure he if he ordered a SA BL and it was served to him in a bud light glass he would say something, especially if the bar has SA glasses on hand. Would you invite him over for dinner and not have any SA in the house to offer him? I am sure he would love to try a homebrew but would also like one of his own so he can talk about it.

If I am out at a restaurant or package store and not interested in what they have or not in the mode for something new SA is my stand by and go to beer.

just my 2 cents

That's nice, how did you make it? I would like to make one and I already have an old cigar box I can use.

I found out where my leak was. It ended up being a bad hose clamp too. Replaced hose clamp yesterday afternoon and it does not appear to have lost CO2 since.

I am in the same boat. I recently built a keezer and have a gas leak that I have not been able to find. I think I have at least narrowed it down to 1 or 2 of the 4 kegs but still not positive.

My wife and I recently started trying different tequilas. So far we like Casa Noble and PaQui for silver tequila. We just bought a bottle of Espolon silver for about $26, had a sip and it is good for the price, will try it in magaritas this weekend. We really liked Tres Generaciones Reposado.

+1 to chest freezer

After much research and debate I am going the chest freezer route myself to use as a kegerator and might even use it as a fermentation chambers at times.

Waiting for this to be delivered as we speak.

Congrats man. I entered the same competition and took a first and a third in the Pilsner category and a first in Light Hybrid.

Is Thirsty Bear in San Fran going to brew your beer and if so are you going there when they make it? My wife and I went to Thirsty Bear 5 years ago when we were on our honeymoon, nice place. If you go check out The Monks Kettle while you are there.

Congrats again. Nice to see other organic brewers out there.

Equipment and Software / Re: Devising a Mash Tun for One Gallon Batches
« on: August 28, 2013, 12:39:23 AM »
About 4 years ago a made a mash tun from a 3 gallon Coleman beverage cooler (blue). I made it to do 5 gallon partial mash batches and it has a ss braid. It is probably big enough to do 1 or 2 gallon AG batches, although I have never tried. It works great for partial mash, holds temps if it is pre heated and I never had any issues with the ss braid. I think I got mine from Target or Amazon, don't remember what I paid for it. I did have to buy the longer pipe nipple and an extra silicone washer to attach the ball valve.

I couldn't figure out how to post a picture so here is a link to the one that I have. Mine is the one on the left with the bigger handle, must be the old style. I will try to post a picture of mine if I can figure it out.

Is your laptop pulling an IP address?

Type CMD then enter
Type ipconfig then enter

Your IP address should start with 192.168. for a home router.

All Things Food / Kitchen Knives

Looking for recomendations for a kitchen knife set. I am not a pro chef so I don't need a $400.00 set of knives. I am looking for something good quality in the $100.00-$150.00 or so range. I have read reviews for a number of sets in that price range and they mixed. I was looking at Victorinox 8-Piece Knife Block Set
online and the reviews are good and it is in my price range. Any suggestions or recomendations?

General Homebrew Discussion / Beer recipe credit
« on: September 16, 2012, 08:56:21 PM »
I am going to be entering a couple beers in competitions that were based on recipes I found online or in magazines. I did not brew any of the recipes identical to the original recipes. I changed either the yeast, types and amounts of malts and/or hops. One recipe I only chagned the yeast and the amount of spices added.

Evan though the recipes I brewed are not exact to the original recipes, but based on the original recipes, should I name them the original recipe names? Should I just make a note on the entry sheet which recipe I based mine on?
