If you are losing money on the IPA, you need to answer a couple questions:
1.  Is it a top seller?  If so adjust the pricing to make a profit.  Why only sell it for $4.00?  Go to 4.50 or 5.00!
2.  If it isn't selling, take it out.

Most of the time if the beer is brewed in a horizontal vessel, there is less pressure than with a vertical one such as a conical.
I believe historically German's used barrels for lagering.

Would love to hear from Vinnie C. - hops, wild yeast, barrels, experimentation, etc. etc. etc.

I think Dan Carey from New Glarus would be a great addition - a LOT of knowledge, and I believe he was a homebrewer to start.

Actually, I am pretty sure he never brewed at home.  If I remember correctly, he went straight to the German Master Brewer program.

Homebrewers don't mind if we hear from people that are much more educated than ourselves either..

]So I finally tapped this keg tonight.
I am quite happy!  I don't have a side by side picture, and as usual only a phone camera.
It has a noticeable hoppy presence to the nose.  Eerily familiar, along with a bitter presence on the tongue.  Grapefruit and citrus at the front of the tongue with a fade to orange at the back.  (I made a couple changes to the recipe), along with the presence of caramel on the breath.
I am thinking this is a stellar recipe that is everybit as good as a purchased beer, it isn't an Oasis clone, (that I made), but it is close.  I am happy..
It makes me feel whole. ;D

2lb of rhubarb in 5 gal of wheat is quite noticeable.  I don't have any strawberry extract right now, but it probably would be much better than real strawberries since it won't really ferment out. 
I did it on a whim, this will probably sit around in the kegerator for quite a while since the girlfriend don't drink much and is hardly ever here.

I transferred this off the dry hops today into kegs for carbing.  I must say that it turned out very close to the real Oasis.  I am going to brew this one again and again.

I know a guy with a reflux still.  It is convertible to a pot still also.  Works good with a water based feed source.

Finished Corsair and The Silent Sea.  On to The Jungle next and then I start on the Dirk Pitt series.
Corsair was really good.  I really enjoyed The Wrecker too.

I usually just write on business cards and stick that into the lid handle, but I must have gotten busy and figured I would "remember" what I was up to.
I'm pretty sure it is laziness of the brewer that caused the case of the unknown kegs.

I once dumped out my starsan bottle (1 gallon repurposed container that used to hold cider), for the dregs off the kettle to be frozen, much the same as you did.

Now I know the container was as sanitized as anything in my brewery.  I put in the wort and forgot about it for a month.  I noticed it was swelling and let the pressure out, as well as put an airlock on it.

A few months later, I was bitten by the sour beer bug and have brewed many since then.  I have a friend that will put a few ounces in every beer and loves it.  I prefer a taste now and then.

Killer Angels is one of my favorites and I agree about Jeff's books not being as good, but crap can you imagine the weight of that shadow looming over your whole life and career?

It's a burden for sure, but he can ride the coattails a little.  Do you think that Mike had any help from his father for the start of the series?  Jeff at least grew up in an environment that will take his writing to the next level much as the printing press did for the rest of us.

We have what we call pickup beers around here.  Beers that have been in the backseat or the bed of the truck.  I will crack it open and drink it warm.  No ice needed. 
I'll take ice in my mixed drink though, it gives me something to do since there isn't a label to peel... ???
