If you bring up the Info on each individual song, there is a place, maybe the second tab, where you can "check" part of a compilation. Then the song will be listed by artist and down at the bottom of the lis as an album.

I only use the "Compilation" box when the album really is a compilation (like a movie soundtrack). The other way to do this is to go to the fourth tab on the Info box and just put Leo Kottke in the Album Artist field.

I have also had the rubber tip fall off into a bottle more than once.  I'm vigilant about checking it before use now.
I also run some of the next beer through it into a container when bottling more than one beer.  Always start with the lightest, least flavorful beers and finish with the smoked and pepper beers.
I don't run sours through the beer gun.  I'd rather carbonate them in a plastic bottle with a Carbonator Cap and gently pour into cold glass bottles.

I've never had a problem with the tip falling off so can't speak to that but I do the same process for bac-to-back beers. As far as sours go ... I just bought a separate tip and hose to use for doing sours. And I soak in PBW followed by StarSan after bottling. Never had a problem.

My house beer is an oatmeal pale ale that uses about 9% malted oats in the grist. I'm sending it in to competition and am trying to decide on which category I should enter the beer. From reading the BJCP guidelines it would seem like I should probably enter the beer in category 23 since oatmeal is not a "normal" adjunct but since it's malted oats, the beer doesn't really carry the same oatmeal characteristic as using unmalted oats in an oatmeal stout.

I'm trying to decide if I should enter the beer as a Category 10A (American Pale Ale) since it fits all the criteria for that style except for the use of malted oats or if I should use Category 23 (Specialty) since it uses a non-standard adjunct.

I'm guessing the best answer is to send it to both and see where it gets judged better but why waste a couple bottles of good beer to only get scoresheets back saying "you should have entered this in the other category."

Check with your local brewery/brew pub. They sometime have damaged kegs that can't be repaired but still make good kettles.

And let me personally thank you for going the legal route for a converted kettle. Lost cooperage is a major issue in the craft brewing world.

Of course, I'm wondering...why worry about finding a "low abv ipa" at all? Just make a good tasting beer and damn the stylistic parameters! Styles are great for competitions but good beer is all you need for a commercial success. Think about the whole new style of black IPA...had everyone stuck with established styles we would have these at all.

I'm giving a talk next month at our homebrew club meeting on fermentables. Besides the obvious ... I wanted to include stories of interesting things other members have fermented. My wildest "non-standard" was bananas in an English mild.

So I'd like to know what is the wildest thing you ever fermented...


ps: I'm reminded of the joke ... "You know you're a homebrewer if ..."

My favorite response? You know you're a homebrewer if you go to the grocery store and find yourself saying "I could ferment that. I could ferment that. I could ...."
