I was able to find a ticket to the NHC, very exciting, except now I need a roomate!  I have a 2-double bed room at the main Hyatt hotel for Tues-Sat night.

If you are interested or know anyone who would like to share a room to reduce the cost, please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi friends,

I was able to secure a hotel room reservation at the Hyatt for the NHC, but not an actual ticket.  If anyone has a ticket available, please let me know.

I am willing to share my room at the NHC in exchange for a ticket hook-up.

Thank you!

My name is Adam and I like short walks to the beach chair, long pulls at the draft handle, and I'm not extremely organized.  My ideal beer is chilled, slightly carbonated, and in a glass.

On a serious note, I am still looking to purchase an NHC ticket if anyone can help.  I have a hotel room at the Hyatt I would be willing to share in exchange for a ticket connection.

Thank you,
~Adam

I signed up for the waiting list too, but never heard anything from the AHA.  What's the best way to contact them?

I share your concerns...I still have a hotel room, but no ticket.  Waiting list has not come through for me...

I have a room for all nights at the main convention hotel and I am looking for a roommate.  However, I need a ticket to the NHC events, in exchange.

I booked the room first, got busy with some stuff, and the conference sold out faster than I could get a ticket.

If someone can help me get a ticket to the events, I can help you with a place to stay!  (The guy who mentioned bringing kegs may get priority! ;))

Cheers,
~Adam

Homebrew Competitions / Re: NHC Entries closed....
« on: March 05, 2012, 11:27:55 AM »
I've judged at the NHC First Round a couple times and found there to be quite a mix of good beers and problematic beers.  Definitively folks apply the "shotgun entry method" instead of sending their best forward.  Or is it, Enter Early, Enter Often? ;)

My opinion is the judging is often not the best larger competitions due to the number of entries, workload per judge, time constraints, etc.  Entering beer in the NHC to get feedback is not the best idea; especially at $10 an entry to boot.

FWIW, I have a hotel reservation at the main location, but I was unable to get tickets for the NHC as it sold out even faster!  I'm willing to offer splitting the room cost in exchange for access to purchase tickets.

Contact me if you have spare tickets and want to stay at the main location!

Wow.  I got the email about tickets last week, posted it up on my homebrew club forum/facebook, booked a hotel room, and said, "I'll get the tickets next week, I need to study for this BJCP exam in two days."

Well crap.  I have a hotel room and no tickets.  (I am on the wait list, but I got on kinda late...)

Will sell half a room for tickets?!

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: How many people use hop bags?
« on: July 18, 2011, 02:17:57 PM »
I use a fine mesh nylon bag for all hops during the boil.  The bag is labeled as "small fine mesh bag" but it is 9X20 inches or so and can easily hold 5 ounces of pellet hops during a boil.  I've recommended it to as many homebrewer friends as possible because I see the benefit when transfering from kettle to fermenter after cooling.

I'm a clean-freak once the boil has stopped, so I don't like to mess with the beer after I drop a chiller in and cover it with the lid.  This makes a whirlpool out of the question.  I run the wort through a plastic funnel with screen and a second fine-mesh strainer that sits on top of it as it goes to the fermenter.  Without a hop bag in the boil the strainer / filter screen will clog within seconds.  WITH a hop bag it will very rarely clog, needing only a swirl here or there with a sanitized spoon.

I haven't had the IBU's analyzed yet, but I do not detect any lack of bitterness or flavor by using a bag.  Since the hop bag has become part of my regular brewing practice, my recipes are based on this experience.

Cheers and beers,
~Adam
