Equipment and Software / Re: Pump reviews

I like my Chugger, Center Inlet. Switched from a Steelhead version 1 Inline to the Chugger Center Inlet. A lot less issues priming, and no cavitation issues.

Kegging and Bottling / Re: Corny volume

Next brew day, I'd fill one up then pour/pump it out into your Boil kettle and verify the volume. Then use the water for brewing.

If your using some kind of harness with straps, a long strip of Velcro works well. I run mine on each side of the Thermowell or airlock and around both sides of the harness.

Here is my final solution. The one I'm getting, the racking cane will actually have a liquid ball lock tip though. Then a jumper from that to the liquid out post on the keg. It doesn't include the orange threaded Speidle collar but I have about 6 extras at home.

I should have it in time to keg my double mash stout, and English IPA. So from here out I'm purging by pushing out sanitizer, and closed transferring. I use Brewtan B in my light colored beers. But that's it! Don't paint me a LODO guy! Lol

Jim,
So the gas flows in around the dip tube, pressurizing the fermentor and forcing beer out the dip tube and into the keg? Are you just installing this into the fermentor when it's time to transfer or leaving it in during fermentation? How much for that setup with the ball lock out?

Yep, I would adjust any water that is going to run through your grains.

Other Fermentables / Re: staggered yeast nutrient additions

I think you need to know your anticipated final gravity to calculate it. Assuming an OG of 1.050 and an estimated FG of 1.010. You can expect to ferment 40 points. You're going to add your addition at 70% fermented, (30% left), so 70% of 40 is 28 points. 1.050 less the 28 points would be 1.022. When SG checks 1.022 you would add your final addition.

May want to look at mash pH as well as water profile. I think I've read somewhere that too high pH can lead to "flabby" tasting beer. Also a bit more sulfate can crisp it up and pop the hops.

I just use a piece of Velcro strip wrapped around the harness handles on each side that just runs over the top of the lid. Keeps it seated down no problem.

Making sure website is not working, despite email sent on Monday, May 8.
I cannot login. Prompt states "Sorry, there was a problem with your last login attempt. Please make sure your email address and password are correct." but it does work in the Regional site.
BTW - password reset does not work either....

Anybody knows...
The last email I received yesterday 05-09, indicated they would let me know when site was up and running.

Has anyone received the post-competition packages that were supposed to be available yesterday?

I haven't seen anything here (I was in the San Diego prelims, but didn't medal)...hopefully we'll have an email if things are delayed? [I'm OK if the packages have to be pushed back due to sheer volume, but hope to know if I should or shouldn't obsessively hit "refresh" on the "My Info & Entries" page!]

According to the "Post First Round" info it looks like they are targeting May 5.

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: Fermenting Fridge question
« on: May 02, 2017, 04:58:19 PM »
Some of those mini fridges can get pretty spendy. May want to look at a small chest freezer, it may not cost that much more. That's what I did, coupled with a Johnson controller. I can fit (2) five gallon fermentor's in it, one of which I install a stainless thermowell that accepts the probe.

Events / Re: Reommendations for brewpubs, restaurants, etc... at NHC?

There are a lot of options. I'll throw out a few to get the ball rolling.
Surly, Summit, Town Hall, Republic. If your out and about, my local brewery is Big Wood in White Bear Lake. And for the best pizza in the cities, Pezzo, also in White Bear.

Also keep in mind the spread of judging dates, from March 17 thru April 23. I looked for a date that fit my schedule to plan for a re-brew if necessary and put that as my first choice.
