All Grain Brewing / Re: Bru'n Water - Reverse Osmosis
« on: July 14, 2017, 07:55:36 AM »
Yes on the water report input tab you can leave that blank and then on the water adjustment tab, select RO under dilution water and set to 100%.   The instructions page of Bru'n Water states this:

"If Reverse Osmosis (RO) or Distilled Water is the brewer's primary water source, then input on Sheet 1 can be skipped and the brewer can move directly to Sheets 2, 3, and 4.  Select either RO or Distilled from the Dilution Water Profile selection and set the dilution percentage to 100 percent on both the Sparge Acidification and Water Adjustment sheets.  The water adjustments can then be properly entered to create the desired water profile."

Still waiting for NYC regional scoresheets, but the beer I sent, a California Common scored a 37.5 at the Ocean State Homebrew Competition this past weekend in RI and placed 2nd via mini-BOS!  So fingers crossed!  :)

Pouring and mid 40's here in Boston area. May switch to snow tonight, but most likely not likely to stick in greater Boston area. It's too early for this!  :'(

Zymurgy / Re: Recipe question from Sept/0ct 2011 issue

I am thinking the typo has to be in the ounces listed because this is the Category 10 winner and American Amber Ale IBU range maxes out at 40, so 79 IBU's is almost double what is recommended for category. Can't seeing it winning gold for that far off. Maybe the 1.2 ounces of Horizon is suppose to .12?

Zymurgy / Recipe question from Sept/0ct 2011 issue
« on: September 23, 2011, 08:34:01 PM »
I don't know if it's late and I am not seeing straight, but one of the National Homebrew Competition recipes seems to be way off in IBU's.  It's the Category 10 recipe on page 53, the American Ale. It lists 19 IBU's but I am getting 73.2 in Beersmith!

The recipe lists:
1.2 oz Horizon at 13% for  60
1.09 oz Cascade at 6% for 10
1.09 oz Centennial at 9% for 10
1.09 oz Cascade whole hops at 6% at knockout
1.09 oz Centennial at 9% at knockout.

I'm getting over 40 IBU's just for the Horizon hops alone.  Can someone run the numbers and tell me if it's me, or if there is a typo somewhere in the hop additions in the magazine.

Thanks!
