i went to a mash in a bag for small batches.  i boil in a small 4 gallon electric kettle.  through the mash bag in a cooler then drain back to the kettle when ready.

did the 'toast' cook all the way through? I often have a problem getting thick cut french toast to cook through on the griddle/pan and have to pop them in an oven to finish. I would worry with the extra thickness it would be even worse. nothing like raw gooyey egg to ruin a good thing.
Ruin? 8)

Equipment and Software / Re: Single Tier Brew System
« on: April 24, 2014, 01:49:45 PM »
Thanks guys!

A little background on me.  I've been brewing going on 3 years with an all grain set up for the majority of that.  I think I only did 2 batches with extract.  I brew in my garage and eventually I'll be in a barn type set up.  I use propane now and have access to use Nat Gas as well.  But I'm leaning more towards electric for my new set up.  I'm planning on a HERMS system with it.  I have seen a few retailers that sell some systems but majority is gas.  For cost of running I think electric will be the way to go.  Especially going with a 10-15 gallon system.

Thank you all for your feedback!

i switched to electric when i went small.  4 gallon kettle with a 1500 watt heater. plug it in about anywhere. i have even moved it inside when it started raining outside.

i make two gallon batches and i just leave the yeast slurry in the bucket and put the next batch right on top.  do it a few times before i dump the yeast and start over.

wtf is a hydrometer? 8)
actually, i do minimize its use and only check my og and wait to check my fg until i am pretty sure it is done.  almost everything i ferment sits in the bucket for a month. i dont check daily.
