I have done price checking between my LHBS and the big boys, and found that my local shop is very competitive.  I live in a small town, (<15,000) and nearly 200 miles from the big city suppliers.  I really appreciate having a source that can meet 95% of my needs.  I am willing to pay a small premium for that luxury.

Our local HB club has supported our LHBS by directing most of our purchases there, and recommending them highly to other brewers.  The manager of the LHBS consults with us regularly about what items to stock, and what supplies to keep on hand.  This has resulted in a very good selection of grains, hops and yeast, and all of the little incidental hardware items that we need.

Sure, I shop online for high dollar / low volume stuff that the LHBS cannot afford to stock.  They understand.

My club is interested in the insurance too.  How will the word get out?  We really look forward to this, and are thankful that it will be offered.

Partly sunny,  18  inches of snow on the ground & 25 degrees Fahrenheit.  It would be a nice day to brew if I hadn't loaned my mash tun to someone.

ATT Recently imposed a 2 gigabyte data limit.  The significant fees for going over that limit

The new version of android 2.2 allows tethering automatically.

I run the samsung moment m 900 and tethers.  Runs pretty well on sprints 3g network.  Unfortunately i live in a rural area and will not have access to the 4 g network for a long time.

All Grain Brewing / Re: 25-point gain in efficiency!

I bought a barley crusher http://www.barleycrusher.com/barleycrusher.phpmalt-mill about a year ago, and left the gap default setting at .039 (as set at assembly).  Is the the opimum setting?  My efficiency is running at about 68%, whether i batch sparge or fly sparge.

Would setting this roller tighter, and the subsequent better cracking, give me a better yield?  or, should i be looking for other reasons for my low efficiency?

Equipment and Software / Re: How do you brew?

I brew mainly 5 gal batches, but have done 10 gallons.  Pair of Rubbermaid coolers for mashing/laudering/.  15 gal converted keg for boiling, immersion chiller, ferment in glass carboys in my basement.  During warm months I brew outdoors.  Northern Minnesota winters force me to mash/lauder indoors, and boil outdoors.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This new forum is what I have been waiting for since I became a member.  AHA TechTalk was clunky at best, though did provide some good information.  Now we'll have something that we can search and get more immediate help on.

Great job.   :D

I use a pair of the 10 gallon round rubbermaid drink coolers.  You can see pictures in my gallery at www.borealbrewers.com  http://www.borealbrewers.com/index.php?action=view_gallery&id=4&module=imagegallerymodule&src=%40random4a135ebf5d7d8
