Thank you. You all have given me some good ideas. I brewed Denny's Old Stoner barley wine about 10 months ago and it is still sitting in the secondary. I am thinking about adding some french oak cubes to it for about a month before bottling. Would that be too long on the oak? Will using oak in this beer ruin it? What does everyone think?

Second Pull Chilled and Carbonated, Clear and red, tart and cherry
Good stuff my friends.... More like a Sour cherry soft drink than a 9% AVB Beer. Sneaky! ;D


For some reason, difficult to photograph. I will try again on a sunny day.


Oh that looks awesome! I need to try my hand at making a sour beer.

Well Dave it looks like I wont make it this year  :(. I missed the first day and the second day falls on National Homebrew Day which I plan on attending at my LHBS. Maybe next year.

I used 1/2 teaspoon of the seeds (before crushing) in a Saison one time and I thought it was overpowering but ymmv.

I have brewed "Flat A## Tired" several times from this link and it is almost spot on to the real thing! Also on a side note, I emailed New Belgium once asking them about their Fat Tire yeast, malts etc and this is part of their reply:

Matty Smooth: "I can't totally give you the recipe, but I can tell you you're on the right track with Biscuit, Munich and Victory malts. We also use Carapils and a Caramel malt, along with the 2-row. Most clean fermenting ale yeasts should work out just fine for you; I think White Labs' California Ale would be a good choice, or their European Ale if you want a bit more malt flavor. Ferment a little bit on the warmer side of the temperature profile for low level ester formation and fast vicinial diketone uptake."

I've already ruined 2 hobbies I loved (music and computers) by turning them into careers.  All I want out of homebrewing is to make great beer and enjoy it with great friends.

I totally agree. Once it becomes work the fun is no longer there.
