Some updated info. Please spread the word. As always, we're looking for volunteers as well as attendees. Thanks!

The Midwest Brewers Fest is a true craft beer festival where you will find over 120 unique beers meads and ciders. Representatives from a number of breweries will be on site for you to directly interact and ask questions about your favorite brews.

The 2012 Midwest Brewers Fest has two purposes. The first is to raise funds and awareness for the restoration of the Plainfield Riverfront Park. The Riverfront Foundation plans are focused on a total restoration aimed at bringing people together ( so that generations to come can enjoy the scenic views and recreational amenities the park once held. The second is to introduce those not familiar to the art and craft of fine beer. The idea was originated by local craft beer enthusiasts and is now being produced by volunteers from all walks of life who share a passion for great beer and a spirit of community.

We’re going to have an amazing lineup of craft beers. We expect to draw over 3,000 people and have 55+ breweries registered.

Some new additions and information for this year’s fest:
•   Oskar Blues from Colorado along with a few breweries will be introducing themselves to the Chicago market at our festival, check them out at:
•   95.9 "The River" FM will be broadcasting live onsite, along with our other sponsors:

Actual on-site brewing will take place and presentations will be given every half hour throughout the day on various topics related to craft beer. Interactive displays will be set up and homebrewing products will be available to view and purchase.
•   Bags Tournament hosted by The Friends of the Plainfield Park District

Midwest Brewers Fest

The Midwest Brewers Fest is a craft beer festival organized by local brewing enthusiasts. This is our inaugural year and we expect over fifty breweries, brewpubs, and AHA registered homebrew clubs to serve about 200 different beers right here in Plainfield, Illinois on the banks of the DuPage River. We will have local artisanal food, great craft beer, local musical artists and brewing expositions. Come join us and meet some of your favorite brewers!

Stop by the homebrew tent and say hello!

i would be interested in joining.  i see the next meeting is the 7th of april, do i just show up or is there some paperwork to do.  also i see one of your officers is john (i will save his last name)  i think he has a brother named joe that lives up the street from me.

Don - All you have to do is come to the meeting and fill out a short registration form. We do about an hour of formal club business, etc. and then break into socializing and swapping homebrews. Limestone Brewing Company offers a 20% discount on food at our club meetings, so come hungry too! You can catch up with John then. Cheers!

oh, website is wrong.  not, it is
Doh! Thanks!

Great news! And it starts on my birthday. I know what I'm doing this year. Any thoughts on adding a homebrew comp to the festival?
Mark - That's a great suggestion that we may use in the future. As this is our first year, we are trying to keep it rather simple. But we thought that actual homebrewing at the festival would be interesting.

Hello everyone. I just wanted to give you an FYI that this event is in the works. I will be sending this notice to homebrew clubs around the midwest. I hope you can join us!
Midwest Brewers Fest
August 26-27, 2011
Plainfield Riverfront Park
Plainfield, IL

To all our homebrewing friends in the Midwest:
This is the inaugural year for the Midwest Brewers Festival. On Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th of August, brewpubs, microbreweries and homebrew clubs from the Midwest will descend upon the beautiful Plainfield Riverfront Park overlooking the Du Page River in Plainfield, Illinois to serve and enjoy great beer and great food with American Craft Beer lovers from all around the Midwest.

This festival is open to the public. We are attempting to go beyond the usual focus on craft beer (but make no mistake – Midwest craft beer is the star here) and place more emphasis is on BREWERS - both professional and homebrewers. We are scheduled to have representatives from 50 professional breweries on site sharing samples of their craft beers. Additionally, craft beer establishments that have chefs who are well known for their pairing of beer and food will be there. Live entertainment will also be provided by numerous regional bands.

As host homebrew club, the Plainfield Ale and Lager Enthusiasts (PALE) invite your homebrew club to be key partners in this event. We are contacting as many midwest homebrew clubs as we can to let you know that we would like you to share your passion for homebrew and brewing techniques with the general public and other fellow brewers. Homebrewing demonstrations (complete brewing sessions) will take place throughout this two day event. We will have a dedicated homebrewing tent (roughly 50' x 80') specifically for homebrew clubs, brewing demonstrations and homebrew merchandise. Represent your club. Share your passion. Rub elbows with your favorite professional brewers! And - there will be overnight camping adjacent to the site of the fest for all festival attendees who chose to make camping reservations.

Admission will be for the entire 2 day event. At this time we are estimating presales to be in the range of $35 to$45 per person. Sales at the gate (if the event is not sold out) are estimated to be $45 to$50 per person. Admission will be non-refundable.

Public attendance at this event will be limited to 3000 (this doesn’t include professional brewers, volunteers or other event support staff).
Admission is free to members of participating homebrew clubs, providing your members volunteer to help us at least one day of the event.

Participating homebrew clubs must reserve space in the homebrew tent to serve your brews and may provide brewing demonstrations as well. We are planning to have 20 (10’x10’) spaces available for homebrew clubs, but if the number of interested clubs exceeds 20 we will look at assigning time slots to spaces. If this arrangement works better for your club please let us know.

Please note that this event is in development and is subject to change. We will keep you updated.

We hope to have our website up and running soon

Ed Malnar

Midwest Brewers Fest – Homebrew Committee Chairman

President P.A.L.E

Next meeting has been moved to November 4th at Limestone.  Also participating in the Learn to Homebrew Day on November 6th between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at Limestone.  Stop by and say hey.

Thanks for that update. I would like to add that all of our future monthly meetings will be held on the first Thursday of every month at 7:00 PM - Limestone Brewing Company, 12337 Rt 59, Plainfield, IL.

Forgive my geographical ignorance, but aren't there already several local homebrew clubs (BOSS, Brewers Syndicate, Silverado, UKG) in that area? However, I can certainly understand doing your own thing. Carry on & good luck!  ;)
The closest to Plainfield would be UKG. They are a fine club as are the others, but traveling to Winfield would be 20 miles and about 45 minutes. Through participation on several forums and connections with Limestone Brewing Company we estimate there may be as many as 20 to 30 homebrewers in our area, and Limestone is being very supportive in our efforts. We would also be far more accessible to those west and south of us as well.

Don't thank me, thank Crispy, he did all the legwork.

I figure I'd let the club committee figure how they wanted to put it on the website,  the forum is covered.

Alright - Thank you Crispy!

Great information. Thank you Fred!

Hey Guys,

Some of us west/southwest Chicago burb brewers are pulling together a New Homebrew Club.

If you’re a homebrewer from Plainfield, Naperville, Oswego, Joliet, Aurora, Bolingbrook or anywhere in between and beyond, please join us at 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 9th at Limestone Brewing Company (12337 S Route 59 Plainfield, IL 60585).

You can bring samples of your homebrews and meet local fellow homebrewers. We will discuss aspects related to forming this new club, such as: club name (we’ll be looking for some creative suggestions from you!), club officers, club activities, future events, contests, etc.

Limestone Brewing Company is offering a 20% discount on food items! Meet Ken McMullen, Limestone’s Brewmaster. Enjoy an evening out and be part of something new!
